Help! We are attempting to complete the activities in Chapter 2. The instructions feel a little vague for the crown and the instructions for the shepherds hook include materials not listed in the materials list, such as a tube. Is there anywhere we can go to find tips and help? Does anyone here have experience successfully completing these activities? Thanks!

The shepherd's crook is fairly straightforward. I'll just use slightly different words and see if that works for ya--

You scrunch the newspaper into a question mark shape, put the straight end into the wrapping paper tube, and cover/wrap the newspaper question mark part in the masking tape, then paint it.

The crown is a little trickier.

Basically you make a cone out of the waxed paper by wrapping it around your head--your head is in the base of the cone, get it? Tape it so it stays. Then take it off your head. Then take your wadded up piece of paper and put it into the cone and stuff it carefully into the pointy part. Mould the wax paper around the ball of papery paper, so that the cone top is flattened. Then put it back on. It should go down around your ears--then just cut out around where your ears are (like upside down U shapes so it fits around your ears instead of covering them). Trim up the bottom of the cone so it's nice and even. Here's a picture so you can get a better idea.white-crown.jpg

Here's my blog post on making the crown. (Though the curved strip of paper is supposed to go in the front not the back.) I'm a more visual person, so there are lots of pictures. :) We never did the crook. But we did do a Pharaoh's collar, ancient Egyptian wig, and a kilt!100_3612.JPG
