Rosie, I'm sorry.

Don't go away very far, and don't be polite.

I don't have any nice words, either, to describe the feelings I felt after reading of Marek's death.

Like albeto said-- except maybe stronger.

I've memorized Jan. 26 as his birthday.  I won't forget.

Love.

One of our homeschool groups held a memorial for him on Thursday, planting an apple tree over at the lake where we had our Christmas break up last year. We could just about see him running along the shoreline and sitting in the water up to his armpits  The apple tree so he can repay all those snacks he pinched off everyone else. Seriously, that kid went out to a playground with his uncle once, and came home with a lolly bag having got himself invited to someone's party! Embarrassing for Mum here, but Uncle thought it was hysterical.

Rosie, Marek sounds like he was quite the character with such a zest for life that he didn't let anything slow him down!

I saw in a previous thread posted about fixing your Mom's fence that you refer to him as 'the boybarian'. That made me grin.

I hope all those "zesty memories" keep you and your family smiling even through these toughest of times.

Rosie,

Like so many others here, I think of you often.  Your son, what a good-looker.   Sweet!  No profound words here.  It's only natural that your Mama heart aches.  He will always be remembered even when the pain is not quite so intense.

I join many others in praying for you.   :grouphug:  :grouphug:  :grouphug:

I've been thinking of you all week, Kari. I think it is **so much** harder when they are older. We all have hopes and dreams for our kids, but I think the expectations are hardest to bury. I had a developmentally delayed, autistic boy. He was as cute as anything but I didn't have expectations. I just hoped he'd grow up and it wouldn't be my fault if he didn't. And his parting gift was it wasn't.

Everytime I think of what you've written here I'm just :crying:

I hope that apple tree stands forever and that Zia takes her kids there one day and they all eat apples while she tells them about her brother.

(Nobody tell me that apple trees don't bear fruit for that long, I'll refuse to believe you! :001_tt2: )

I lit a candle in church today for your family. I would have done it last week, but we had a visiting minister and she didn't follow the usual plan. Anyway, I had a very long line of people coming up to me after the service to ask me to personally convey their sorrow and sadness over this sad news to you and your family. So much love was sent your way from a little UU church on the other side of the world.

(Nobody tell me that apple trees don't bear fruit for that long, I'll refuse to believe you! :001_tt2: )

What does it say about me that my first reaction is to want to bring 'evidence' from Prince Caspian?  ...the kids are called back to Narnia and find out that they've come hundreds of years later, and are eating the apples from the orchard they had planted all those years before... so, of course Zia's kids will be able to eat those apples...and her great-grandchildren as well!

I, too, keep coming back here... I don't have anything useful or comforting to say, but you are so much in my heart Rosie.

I hope your move went as smoothly as possible and you and Zia are settling in to your new space...

thank you for telling us about the memorial & the tree... and for sharing the photo... now I have a face to go with the stories and to hold in my heart... though in my mind he wasn't very still!  ...I see him in constant motion... though the concentration he is bringing to that watermelon fits the images in my head very well!

:iagree:

I think of him often too... especially last week when my little guy encountered Henry V for the first time...

...and every time I'm tempted to impose my experience as a teen reader on my own children... and shield them from the books that were too intense for me, I remember your son and how he interfaced with some of those works, and I look more carefully and the book... and at my own child.

I am honoured I got to meet your precious boy a couple of times. Last time we met up (when I dragged the poor DH along lol) we took a couple photos of the kids climbing those trees near the car park. I'll have a look and see if we got your 2 in the photos and email you a copy.
