DPM43
Has anyone here done research on how Common Core has changed the ACT/SAT? In no way do I want or plan to change my dd's curriculum to meet CC "standards", but we are concerned about how it will change testing for college entrance ( she will finish in 2016). I'm wondering if doing lots of ACT prep will ensure a high enough score. And then there's this: https://www.act.org/certificate/earn.html Thanks, Desiree
MarkT
For the SAT yes: http://www.theatlantic.com/education/archive/2014/03/the-common-core-is-driving-the-changes-to-the-sat/284320/ The new head of the CollegeBoard is a key CC person.
The Girls' Mom
Basically, they are already aligned. http://www.act.org/solutions/college-career-readiness/common-core-state-standards/ Normal test prep should be enough. My daughter has never had Common Core anything and just took the ACT. She did test prep for about 6 weeks (we went through a prep book and took about 6 timed practice tests). She did well. And just becoming familiar with how the test is worded and what kind of answers they are expecting raised her score considerably from the first practice test to the 2nd. Elisabet1
It can't do much to change college admission. Not every state has adopted Common Core and other countries have not adopted it.
Crimson Wife
The ACT is supposed to be already aligned and the only change I've heard about is that it will be offered on computer starting next year (a paper version will continue to be offered). The SAT is being totally overhauled and IMHO the changes announced sound like a "dumbing down".
