Frechesmaedl
Hi Everybody, I have been scheming to get German workbooks for my 1st grade daughter for our afterschool studies and I found some great books as e-book downloads on this website: http://www.school-scout.de/ I ordered these books: http://www.school-scout.de/48388-mufti-der-kleine-freche-dinosaurier-literaturblaet http://www.school-scout.de/48384-rechtschreiben-ernst-und-heiter-lustige-rechtschre http://www.school-scout.de/48666-schmunzeldiktate-rechtschreibtrainer-fuer-die-grun You can see samples by clicking on "Blick ins Materal" and, frankly, one could just download all of the samples and use them without having to buy the books. Have fun!
4KookieKids
Thanks! These two threads may also be useful: http://forums.welltrainedmind.com/topic/474223-fyi-math-worksheets-in-german/?hl=%2Bgrundschulmaterial&do=findComment&comment=4981301 http://forums.welltrainedmind.com/topic/508503-german-math/?hl=%2Bgerman+%2Bmath&do=findComment&comment=5632365 (I know you've already posted on at least one of the threads so you're aware of them, but I figured it helps to have things "grouped" for anyone new... or just for me, if I forget somewhere down the road. :) )

Guest lesabrebabe
These links look great however I am trying to find something similar for my middle school daughters. Would also love to find some Youtube material that is appropriate for that age level. So much that I have found on Youtube is either too young or inappropriate. Any thoughts would be appreciated. I see you have just one post. Welcome! I'm following this thread... also looking for material at a middle school level as to interest, but elementary as to German knowledge. I was also interested in movies available on Netflix, but like you with You Tube found things that seemed like they'd either be too babyish, or likely to be inappropriate. ganzweitdraussen
I see you have just one post. Welcome! I'm following this thread... also looking for material at a middle school level as to interest, but elementary as to German knowledge. I was also interested in movies available on Netflix, but like you with You Tube found things that seemed like they'd either be too babyish, or likely to be inappropriate. www.mediathek.daserste.de is the first state TV channel in Germany and they "store" all their content for a week and its freely accessable. I honestly think, that "Die Sendung mit der Maus" is still suitable for middle school, since the discussed subjects are certainly over my sons head, who is 5 yo and I don't expect him to be interessted in them for quite a while. The intro is somewhat childish, but not the following content. www.zdf.de/ZDFmediathek is the second state owned channel and they do the same thing as mentioned above. In general many things they show Saturday and Sunday in the mornings is suitable for children. And honestly in middle school I found the Smurfs still appealing, they are called "Die Schluempfe" in German and you can find many on Youtube. But maybe thats just me. And www.gutenberg.org has not just free books in German, but also audiobooks. They mainly carry old classical fairytails and such, but since some stories are probably already known to your children, it will be easier to get the meaning.; Good luck! ganzweitdraussen
For those of you who want to teach your child to read in German: I found this site helpful, but you probably will have to understand German to be able to use it. The site has been developed my an experienced German Teacher and you can do it for free. He also has many videos on Youtube to accompany the lessons and to explain his method. My son, who already learned to read English, learned all the sounds by the third day me playing the video and we are now reading every day. http://www.kinder-lernen-lesen.de/buchstab.htm
naturalmom
Here is a fun site with all sorts of reading possibilities. They have a lot of Lerngeschichten: stories about nature or history, etc., with short bursts of text interrupted with nice photographs. http://hamsterkiste.de/
