Their fencing coach gave them a really hard time last night b/c they didn't know the term. I am going with the assumption that we are just really stupid, but curiosity has me offering a poll. I asked a couple of my friends and they had never heard the word before either. I'm not entirely sure what the difference between a sophomore and a junior is either, but then we don't use those terms around here. And here I thought I had a relatively robust vocabulary. I suspect he gave them a hard time because of Phineas and Ferb, not because the word is common knowledge (at least before P&F sang about it). I know what it means because of P&F. They just told me that the coach asked them what an aglet was and when they didn't know, he gave them a hard time. I am guessing after seeing that video that that is probably why. Lots of Cartoon Network, Nickelodeon, and HBO. I knew what an aglet was, but I've never heard of nor seen P & F (and I didn't even have the curiosity to click on the link). I also know what a telomere is and feel that is a little bit more important in our lives. ;) LOL!! When my guy started ps in 9th grade he came home annoyed and feeling left out because he didn't know what a Tic Tac was. We had simply overlooked that super important part of his education (sigh). Santa has put some in his stocking every year since. I don't recall knowledge of aglets or Tic Tacs being on any of the standardized tests or college apps though, so hopefully we skated through and our horrid mistakes won't haunt us too much.
