TeaTotaler
Does anyone have experience with this? I have always had extremely dry skin. A couple of years ago I noticed a small patch of eczema near my ears. The doc prescribed a topical steroid and it went away. About a month ago I noticed that the skin below my lower lids seemed dry and flaky. Putting lotion, coconut oil etc hasn't done much. Some days it is much worse than others. At times, there will be more puffiness and the skin will crack and bleed. I cut out gluten from my diet last June. I did a Whole30 and was able to add back minimal dairy without any problems. I'm wondering what caused this flare. I may need to cut out dairy altogether. Sigh.......cooking and eating used to be such pleasurable activities....now....not so much. Any suggestions for what I could do or possible causes? Because it is so close to my lower lid and near the inner eye I have to be careful what I put on. The coconut oil would get on my lashes and mess my eye glasses...wearing my contacts was out. I really don't want to see my doc AGAIN! I'm getting a little tired of seeing various health professionals at this point in my life. Thanks in advance for your help.
Moxie
I have one spot of eczema on my lower lashes. Total PITA!! The only thing I've found that worked is the steroid cream. I know, I know, I'm not supposed to put it close to my eyes. I can't stop myself--it is so annoying!
Ali in OR
I've had this issue for the past couple of years. I won't use steroids near my eyes (have read about risk of glaucoma) or really anywhere on my face other than the jawline. What helps for me is daily use of Eucerin cream below eyes, on eyelids, and on/above brows, plus a layer of vaseline petroleum jelly when it is flaring. I should just use the vaseline daily too and then maybe it wouldn't flare. I think it is worse in winter (drier air) and in the presence of other allergens (cat rubbing himself on my face to get me up to feed him, pollen). UV is also not good--sunblock and hats are necessary. I also like to use Clinique's mild clarifying lotion that has no alcohol in it. Maybe I shouldn't use it around my eyes, but I see no warning on it and I find it soothing.

I already have a degenerative eye disease and I am slowly losing my vision. Don't need anymore eye issues. :-( I will try the Eucerin cream. Thanks for posting. Mothersweets
One of my sons had eczema. He normally only had it on certain spots on his arms, legs, and body but woke up one morning with it all around his eyes, poor guy. I certainly didn't want to us steroid cream around his eyes so ended up trying plain Chapstick on him and it worked really well. I tried it on myself to see how it felt, did it sting, etc. and was surprised to find that it didn't feel heavy or goopy at all. It cleared up in a day or two. Hope you find something that works for you - I know how uncomfortable it is!

The goopy factor is an issue especially when I have to leave the house. Thankfully it is not as bad as some pictures on online med sites. I hope it calms down before I head to the Cincy convention. I guess I could wear sunglasses the whole time.....which would help my eyes from the glare of the convention hall, too. Ha!
