Wordly Wise: is anyone using it?

Yes, Wordly Wise 3000 for two years, although I think we are going to drop it next year. It served its intended purpose, increasing my oldest's reading and spelling level through vocabulary exposure. It also was helpful in practicing reading comprehension and the short answer question format.

i like it. My only complaint is they don't give enough room for writing long, full-sentence answers. I like the reading passage and questions at the end. My 4th grader who was really struggling in public school and not producing any meaningful work, as a homeschooler this year got through the 3rd and 4th grade book. I didn't demand full-sentence answers often because of the space issue and I was more glad to see the correct answers. I plan to use it again next year.

I got it based on a recommendation from a friend without really researching it. We do it occasionally but I'm not crazy about it. It falls in what I consider the more traditional school model of vocabulary development - not really classical methodology. My daughter's vocabulary is impressive not because of workbooks but because she is soaked in beautiful literature and reads constantly. The only reason I see to use it is that it is a typical testing format for reading comprehension that I'm sure she will see in the future.

We have used Wordly Wise for grades 1 and 2 and we currently use grade 3. I like it for the most part, my daughters vocabulary and reading comprehension and skills have increased. We will probably go to online for 4th this time next year. We do not use the word lists for spelling but I do add the words to the vocabulary section of Spelling City.

That means starting on a device with Flash and then moving to the iPad app. Kind of awkward, but doable I guess.

There are iPad apps that allow you to use Flash. The one we like best is Photon, but I'm sure there others, if you wanted to try that route.
