ClassicalTwins
Is there another organization like HSLDA?
Farrar
Nope. However, many people have inclusive statewide organizations that will effectively act the same way by lobbying for homeschool rights and will have someone you can call to get advice about how to follow the law or what to do if your homeschooling rights are violated. Seasider
Homeschool Legal Advantage.Pretty sure they are defunct. A link I followed from an old article to the HLA web site now leads to this: http://homeschool.ncll.org I have no knowledge of this new organization. I just remember hearing a while back (maybe two years ago when we started homeschooling round two?) that HLA was no longer around.

Seasider
Homeschool Legal. advantage is now known as the National Center for Life and Liberty's Homeschool Center. Do you know if it's the same folks that founded HLA? Is there any back story that I won't find on the new (linked) website?
mom2scouts
Do you know if it's the same folks that founded HLA? Is there any back story that I won't find on the new (linked) website? Yes, it is the same people/person. David Gibbs III was the attorney who started Homeschool Legal Advantage and is the president of NCLL. ETA: I googled David Gibbs III and that led to all kinds of interesting sites.

CrunchyGirl
It really is unfortunate there can't be a home school legal organization that can just deal with homeschooling and not a huge list of other things I can't fathom supporting (financially or otherwise). I guess I should be grateful I have a lawyer not that I'm the least bit worried honestly.

However, we have second degree relatives living in yurts in Oregon and friends who are in the local anarchist community, which already has FBI harassment issues. A neutral option to HSLDA is worthwhile even if it isn't needed for sophisticated families. While not supporting HSLDA, I would willingly support a neutral organization.Even if it is not relevant to me, it would be be consistent with my charitable giving.
