workingmom
Looking for a live teacher online 9th Grade English/Lit Class. DS will be taking a rigorous schedule with a college world history class in addition to his other courses. He is an extremely strong reader and this year he's doing A CTY writing class to get him up to college level writing. But I prefer to outsource 9th Grade English (or have a good curriculum) so that he can be responsible to an outside teacher for his writing. We've done FLL then Grammar Town but I want him to keep up with more in depth analysis. When we did English at home we tended to do great with Grammar and vocab/spelling but I felt he wasn't doing too much writing. This year in 8th grade he's enrolled part time in the public school for LA. But its very much busy work and he's already read all the literature selections. The entire year thus far, they've only done two short essays. So that's why we enrolled in the CTY writing. But next year he'll be doing lots of writing for the college level class but I don't want to drop the ball and teach 9th grade English. He tends to love Online G3 which has a weekly live adobe connect class and small assignments. However its not big on writing. Which I'm OK with for next year as long as there is in depth lit discussion and exposure to a variety of writings. You guys helped me find JaneinTX for math. Need suggestions, preferably secular. littlemommy
The Potter's School has a wonderful English department. Your student would need to take a placement test to be proper placed. It's not secular though.
workingmom
Thanks littlemommy, that was one I looked into but not sure how much biblical influence for a lit class. While not live classes, those that do Lightening Lit how is it working and who grades the writing? A tough writing grader, I don't want to discourage ds or slack on the assignments? workingmom
Aventa doesn't seem to have live classes?
GinaPagnato
I second Potter's School. My kids have done many of their lit courses, and though it's a Christian school, they don't discuss the Bible regularly, nor are their literature choices Christian. They've read everything from Hawthorne to Hemingway.
