As far as I was able to tell: First Form covers: The six indicative active tenses of the first two verb conjugations Three noun declensions First and second declension adjectives Second Form covers: 6 indicative active and passive tenses of all four verb conjugations 5 noun declensions including -er and -ir nouns and i-stem nouns Adjectives in 3 declensions Personal pronouns Prepositions Lively Latin covers: Book 1: 1st & 2nd noun declensions; 1st conjugation verbs in three tenses; sum in 3 tenses, 1st & 2nd declension adjectives Book 2: Declensions 2-5 of Latin nouns along with uses of all the rest of the cases; Conjugations 2-4 of Verbs and all verbs in their 6 tenses (present, imperfect, future, perfect, pluperfect, and future perfect); personal pronouns; adverbs; the complementary infinitives. So, I would say you could probably start with Third Form Latin if you finished Lively Latin BigBook2. I'd probably just go straight into Henle (or Wheelocks) if you made it that far. We're almost done with First Form & I don't have any personal experience with Lively Latin, so take my comparison with a big dash of salt! greenmamato3 Posted March 30, 2014 Share Posted March 30, 2014 is the approach of LL the same as FF and SF? somewhere i remember someone making a comparison of whether certain Latin programs approached things for more of a grammatical standpoint or more from a translational standpoint, beyond just the parts-to-whole and whole-to-parts paradigm. the reason i ask is because i'm currently on the fence about whether to do FF, LL1 or visual latin. i have a list of pros and cons for each. i'm interested in you transitioning from LL to the FF (or Third Form as it were) since i think that would be a better fit for my younger child of the two who will be doing the latin together. i'd appreciate any thoughts or guidance as i consider and weigh the options. MamaSprout Posted March 30, 2014 Share Posted March 30, 2014 Catherine Down has suggestions for what to do after Lively Latin 2 on her site. Henle is one of the suggestions, as I recall. If you are just starting out, there is a chance she might have LL3 available in 3 years when you need it. LL2 is a 2 year program. LL seems to grammar based with smattering of translation and a good amount of English vocabulary (I opted not to use Vocab from Classical Roots for fourth grade b/c LL covered the same material so well.)
