RootAnn
I've enrolled dd#1 in Memoria Press's online Second Form Latin class for the fall. Do I need the DVDs too? She's doing First Form Latin with me doing it along side of her, going through flash cards, quizzing her on the grammar, and watching the DVDs. Opinions from those whose kids have taken the online classes?
SevenDaisies
Hopefully someone else will answer your question, but I have a question for you. I assume that you did not enroll your dd in FF online this year, and I wonder if you had to do it again, would you? I am debating whether or not to enroll dd next year. We are using LC1 this year, and she is doing extremely well - much better than me. I can't decide if we should continue ourselves or enroll online. I don't want to completely remove myself from the picture, but I want to make sure she has proper instruction. FF looks like a big step up from LC. RootAnn
I did not enroll her in FFL online this year. I bought an extra workbook and I work on it ahead of her. I would definitely do it again that way - even though it takes me time and honestly, makes my brain hurt! It has made me a better Latin teacher for my youngers as I know where some things are going and I've had that much more practice. DD#1 is definitely "better" at it than I am, but I'm keeping up. We have the DVD for First Form & we both watch it (usually). I go through the grammar questions with her every week. We both go through the flashcards a couple times per week. I don't know if I'll be doing that for her next year or not. ?? I'm just not sure if I'll be able to stay ahead of her next year with SFL, so I'm bowing to the online class. Will I be able to teach it when the next ones get to this point? I don't know. First Form moves FASTER than LC. Much faster. You'll be much more prepared for the first several sections since you've done LC1. But, there is a LOT of practice in First Form. If you have to slow down a bit, I don't think that is a problem. DD#1 won't get through the whole FFL book this "school year." She'll have to finish the last couple of chapters this summer. We took it a little slow in the beginning. Let me know if you have any other questions. (And thanks for bumping my question!)
Mbelle
I had one child in FFL on-line and another that did Independent Study. I thought the IS was a great option and it is only $50/Semester. I did notice that the tests/quizzes were not as comprehensive as the on-line. They were mostly like what is in the test booklet, whereas the on-line class tests have more meat to them. IS helped keep us on track and that student did not want to sit through a class. Plus that student really enjoyed having a grade from someone else. We did not need the dvd for the on-line student. The classes are recorded so you can watch them again if you want to.
