madteaparty
I hope it is ok to ask here. DS is studying French (Galore Park, some other memory work and 1 week immersion in France this summer) but I need to start doing a better job with my almost 3 year old. So far, I have ordered some French Caillou DVDs from amazon.ca as well as the English and French version of a couple of books (Good night moon and another Caillou one). I plan to have DS read the books in French to DD. Any other very simple things they can do together? Many thanks!!
Monica_in_Switzerland
My DD (2) as well as her bigger siblings LOVES the Usborne "1000 French Words" book. The pictures are very engaging. It is a good "point and say" vocabulary book. DH is using the German version of the same book to work with my son on his German vocab. bakpak
Reading simple children's books together works well. So any that are bilingual or fairly simple like Clifford, Curious George, Winnie-the-Pooh, etc. work pretty well for the 3 year old to hear from you (if your French is good enough to read and/or translate on the go). There's plenty in that level of book for a 10-year-old as well, and having the stories be somewhat familiar is helpful for learning. I've been doing this a ton with Spanish and I can tell you my Spanish leveled up just because I was reading children's books with my daughter. As they say, you really learn something once you start teaching it... You could alternate letting your son read as well. My 4.5 year-old is starting to read full sentences in Spanish now and it's fun.
Guest RJC
Many 10 year olds enjoy www.enigmes.ca Simply sit down with your child and try them. Great family time and learning experience all at once.
pmeilaen
Skoldo (better for five years and older) Graindor is very good for the three year old, if you know French yourself. There is also a version for older children. French for Kids (we have been using this for 10 years now)
beausa
You can also have them "play" with www.bayam.fr The site offers games, short videos (le petit ours brun, Sam Sam...), story telling, and other activities. My daughter loves it (She is bilingual, but we use the site for her not to lose her French.)

bakpak
I've found it handy to play games in the language too. You can start with simple games where you're only using colors, numbers, simple words (like Candyland, UNO, dominoes, bingo, etc.). These are a good way to just include the foreign language in your own daily lives and keep it fun. I also often do math in a foreign language with my preschooler, as it's fairly straight-forward without a lot of complicated vocabulary.
