vwsmith
We are currently using BFSU K-2 for my 2nd grader. We jumped on the BFSU train late and just started it this year, but will complete it soon. Anyway...I love it and my son loves it. I was naturally going to move on to Vol. 2 for 3rd grade but am intrigued by Science in the Beginning. It appears to be less work on my part (i will have a 1st grader and toddler keeping me busy as well) and also appears to combine the Sciences (which I believe is a strong point of BFSU). Any thoughts? Experience with either?
Tanikit
Also interested in knowing this as we move towards completing BFSU1 - I have loved BFSU1 and had planned to continue as it works so well for us, but am interested in hearing about both BFSU2 and Science in the Beginning. 73349
Apart from the difference in use/prep, they are written from pretty different viewpoints - BFSU being science for its own sake, and SITB as a religious education book that looks at science in light of the Bible (15 lessons on each day of Creation). They will cover some of the same topics and might even have some of the same hands-on activities, but I would expect the content to have very different emphases. It depends on what you're shopping for.

It depends on what you're shopping for. I haven't used BFSU, so this is not a comparison. While SITB has bible references in some lessons, and is Christian perspective it is not a creation science book or all that super heavy on religious education. It's a book covering general science topics and organized in an order that reflects the "days of creation". 15 lessons on topics about the science of light and optics (because of day 1 of creation, let there be light) 15 lessons on topics about science of water and air 15 lessons on topics in land, plant (basics in earth science and botany) 15 lessons on sun, solar system (day 4 let there be sun, moon, stars) 15 lessons on birds and ocean (day 5 let there be birds and fish in the seas) 15 lessons on land animals and people (includes lessons on senses) and a mention of rest. but that is something to take into consideration as needs will vary widely. I know in one of the other SITB threads, some people who hold "old earth" are trying it out and finding it can be used without a lot of modifcation because it's just not like that. hope some of that helps original poster to see some of unseen for her goals.
