Sisyphus
I had a salient thought to offer...but my mind has been thankfully blank (bleached?) since reading the words "Lego p0rn". !!!
CaffeineDiary
Quote from the OP: "We watch some anime and there are those in our church who give us a hard time about it." I took CaffeineDiary's post to be talking about the church members giving the OP and family a hard time demonstrating poor judgment, not whether or not they like anime. Exactly. Obviously I wouldn't say this to people you need to be polite to, but anyone who wants to insert themselves into my business without my invitation is more than welcome to drink a long tall glass of shut the heck up. Church has got nothin' to do with it - busybodies are intolerable no matter what their belief system is.
Mrs Mungo
I believe it was Mrs. Mungo that posted about the t-shirt wearing being a quick way to figure out if people wanted to be friends or not. (correct me if I am mistaken) Yes, my kids often wear Harry Potter, Batman, etc shirts to functions. It quickly weeds out those for whom those things are going to be issues. Mrs Mungo
"I don't approve of your non-approval." That's right up there with "I'm judging you for judging." Judgment=thought Giving someone a hard time=behavior These are different things. You can disapprove of something all day long, keep your trap shut and nobody would be the wiser. But, when you actively give them a hard time over something so trivial, then you have a problem. That is what the posters are saying. unsinkable
Don't like it? I don't care. Don't approve of it? Hmm, yes, I do think that's poor judgement that probably extends to other things. It's like saying you don't approve of live action movies - a bit nonsensical, imo. Judgment=thought Giving someone a hard time=behavior These are different things. katilac
Uh, nope. I'm pretty sure some posters are disapproving of disapproval. You referenced my quote (which didn't carry over): Don't like it? I don't care. Don't approve of it? Hmm, yes, I do think that's poor judgement that probably extends to other things. It's like saying you don't approve of live action movies - a bit nonsensical, imo. Do I disapprove of their disapproval? Well, disapproval means the belief that someone or something is bad or wrong. I suppose I do think they're wrong, but I don't think you can remove the connotation of 'bad' from disapproval. I don't think they're bad. I think they're stupid. Guest
:iagree: My 18 year old nephew could remember and spell all the names of the 200 Pokemon when he was a kid but had many zero for school spelling tests  He is now in engineering :) This could be my Ds as well...not to mention cataloging how many Hit Points each was worth and its rarity, etc. my DS has a huge stack of Death Note out from the library. He's urging me to read them, because he finds the plot so intriguing. This is my "hates reading" child.
minuway
It's short for "animation." So pronounce it like you're going to say "animation," but suddenly saw Benedict Cumberbatch and Tom Hiddleston walking toward you and you forgot you were breathing. "Animaaaay...... :drool5: " That is, if you're into tall, skinny, young, exceedingly talented actors. If not, then pretend a balloon popped and startled you. Although between the two, I suspect one image is going to be more popular than the other in the minds of posters here. Well, that was just about the best way to describe the pronunciation, ever...

stripe
"If it exists, there is porn of it." Rule 34 of the Internet I can't even begin to tell you how fortunate I feel for never having seen any Lego or Minecraft porn. :ack2: My husband was once approached by some weirdo in the hardware store who was circling around him referring to male and female parts (as in, screws and plugs and things) and kept saying, "You know why they're called that?" That seemed like something a 12 year old might say to another boy. I couldn't believe an adult would still be agog over that.
imagine.more
I think Japanese cartoons, that's all. As a former Anime freak in high school, honestly most of it is totally fine and I totally intend to watch anime with my kids when they're older :) Now my parents' misconception was that anime, because its a cartoon, is made for little kids. It's *mostly* not. It's for teens and adults and some of the movies and shows have complex themes. So parents whose kids are watching Anime or reading Manga (no they're not the same but the two are certainly related) should just be discerning like with any tv show or novel. I don't really understand the people who think Anime as a whole is inappropriate but then I also am a big Harry Potter fan and regularly read fantasy and sci-fi. So clearly themes of magic and fantasy are not a problem in our household :)
