Kathryn
Our cat will be six months old tomorrow. At what point do we start getting cat food instead of kitten food? The food we get says one year. Is that standard? We got him from the shelter when he was four months old and he was in a room with older cats with shared food. I assume he was being given regular cat food there, but he was still very small and kitten-looking then, so we got kitten food. He's now what I'd consider adult cat size. J-rap
I always switch at about a year, but it probably isn't really too big a deal.
Pawz4me
It would be fine to go ahead and switch him now. I'd definitely switch him over by 8 months or so. Many "adult" foods are actually labeled as "for all life stages."
Terabith
I've never seen a mouse labeled "for kittens" or "for adult cats."
Ali in OR
If he's full-grown, you're probably fine switching. I had a large bag of kitten food and went on using it up past the 1-year point. It's pretty high calorie, so he was overweight by his next vet appointment a few months later. We switched to adult food and he dropped the extra weight with no change in food quantity, just food type.
Cera
We switched at 6 months because our cat was getting chunky. She had stopped growing "up" and was only growing "out" so the extra calories were a negative.
