ourjourney
I created a homeschool planner, (a file you print and bind yourself). But my customers are wanting a printed planner as well, and the quotes I'm getting are around $90! I've checked local printing companies, fedex, office max, and more. I can't imagine it is that much to print and bind this thing! It is 69 pages double sided (so 138 total) and a simple spiral binding. Suggestions? Rachel
Having worked in the copy center of one of the big box office stores years ago, I'd say it's actually the color copies that are killing you, not the binding. It may be cheaper to work with a commercial printer and purchase your planners in semi-bulk. If you are having trouble finding a printer, see where your library (or university, hospital, etc. that sends out mailers in your area) has their printing done. I know mailers aren't the same thing, but it might help you locate a printer than can do the type of printing you need.
ourjourney
Thanks for the reply! Yes, it is definitely the color that is making the price skyrocket, but the whole beauty of this planner is in the colors and graphics. I think for next fall I will purchase some in bulk like you say, but since this "season" of homeschool planners is practically over I can't afford to do that and have them go unused. Even in bulk, the local printing companies are only giving a 20% discount, which is still more than I could charge even without profiting. I guess for this year I will just not have printed planners as an option and do some research before next year. xoxo Having worked in the copy center of one of the big box office stores years ago, I'd say it's actually the color copies that are killing you, not the binding.
