houseofkids&pets
One of the daily deals at Michael's Craft Store is a 10 drawer rolling cart. It is normally $74.99, but is selling for $29.99 for today only. I am considering purchasing one, but would love to hear from someone who owns it first. Is it sturdy? http://www.weeklyad.michaels.com/department/19 Thanks, Michelle
LaxMom
We had one for 5 or 6 years, and used it for art supplies. It was fine. We ended up giving it to friends who use more of a workbox system, and they seemed to have no difficulty with it for that purpose.
tabinfl
It's flimsy and cheap and the drawers come off the tracks easily, BUT it gets the job done if what you want to store is small, lightweight items that don't need a whole cabinet / drawer to themselves and don't stack well. I would never buy one at regular price, but I have two that I got at a similar sale price and I love them. One stores the kids' drawing/coloring paper, stencils, crayons, pencils, stickers, half-completed drawings, and a few small coloring books. The other is next to my desk and holds the little extra whatnots (flash cards, math cubes, reward stickers, reference sheets, etc.) that go along with each subject. Sk8ermaiden
Agree with previous poster. If it's for long-term storage of lightweight things it's OK. But the drawers come off the rails at the touch of a feather and it's extremely annoying.
Paige
I have one and don't love it. It's flimsy- definitely not worth $75 and barely worth the sale price. It's really cheap. It cannot hold books. It cannot hold binders. Maybe it could hold a small, not super full binder, but not more than one per drawer. It can hold papers, folders, and small, lightweight art supplies and things like that. It doesn't hold those well, however, because even with nothing in the drawers, they get off track and are a pain. If you need something like that and do not have small children, it should be fine as long as you know what to expect. I have kept ours and we use it, so it's all right. If I hated it completely, I'd have given it away because it takes up a lot of space. I would not recommend it for anyone with small kids. It would be very easy for a child to pull the whole thing over and get hurt or just make a mess and it would not hold up well to a small child trying to pull the drawers in and out repeatedly because of how it gets off track so easily. Evergreen State Sue
I bought two of those when my kids were in early elementary years. I would use each drawer for each subject putting in their papers and books. Now that they are in highschool, the books are too big and heavy. This system really kept me organized, and the kids knew exactly where to find their stuff. It doesn't hold binders, but we used to put those up on top. Thicker books could go on top too. I don't remember how much I paid, but I got it at Costco.
houseofkids&pets
I can't decide :confused1: . It gets such mixed reviews about how sturdy it is. I want something to make our day easier, not cause frustration. I need to go in the store and see if they have one on display. Thanks for the replies. Sk8ermaiden
We have two of them and love them. I haven't had problems with the drawers coming off the railings. I just know when to stop pulling. They don't come off the end. The sides pop out. Like the drawer collapses in from the middle because there's no bracing of the vertical pieces, and they're flimsy and tall, so they flex. Sometimes it's even sitting all alone in a room and I come in and a drawer with nothing but ribbon in it has come off the tracks.
aggie96
I bought this on sale from Michael's last year to store colored construction paper and art supplies. The drawers are too flimsy for either. The stored items nee to be very light to prevent the sides coming off the rails. And even if I manage to use it without drawers falling out, the kids can't manage it. Also, my mom has two of these to store art/craft supplies such as glitter, fabric paint (small containers), yarn, etc. Her drawers fall off constantly also. I would not recommend this item for any price. It is cute but poorly designed.
Down_the_Rabbit_Hole
Bought this last year when it was on sale. Use it for our nature collections. So far it has worked fine but it is flimsy and not worth the $74 they claim is the original price.
kwickimom
Mine are junk. They fall in from the sides also. I would not recommend them at all
Katy
I think it's okay for a workbox system, or to keep lingerie sets together in your closet, but I certainly wouldn't put anything heavy in it.
Guest
I bought two of them last year, was so excited about the price. They are so flimsy, I couldn't keep them standing up straight. I gave them away.
houseofkids&pets
Thank you for all of the replies. I have decided not to purchase the drawers right now and will stick with my stackable shelves. We are very rough on things around here, so it doesn't sound like it would work in our home. I'll have to look on Amazon to see what might be different about the carts sold there.
elegantlion
I have a smaller version. You have to continue to tighten the screws on the side. They come loose way too easily, and I've put together furniture for years, I know how to properly tighten a screw. I considered a larger one, but not after my experience with the shoddy craftsmanship. There are better alternatives, although they don't look as cool. matrips
We've had these for several years, and they've certainly done their job. We used them for work boxes. As far as the drawers coming off track, we had this problem until I realized everything just needed to be tightened up periodically. Some screws had come a bit loose. The drawers are lightweight, so nothing too heavy could be stored in them.
