Kid music in French (or other simple music in French)?

we are trying to learn french, we do half an hour daily with some memorisation exercises, etc. No opportunity for immersion and neither one of us is fluent currently. DS is 9. Since we spend a fair amount of time in the car, I want to get some music to listen to in French. I think there is a Putumayo (spelling?) one, I also think Carla Bruni's new CD sounds good (don't judge) and the words therein seemed intelligible.

Any other tips for me? I need to get on Canadian amazon and order some movies. Many thanks!

We like Baby's First Steps in French. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0609607413/ref=s9_simh_gw_p14_d0_i1?pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_s=center-3&pf_rd_r=1XQFQ6AGF06KQXAGP928&pf_rd_t=101&pf_rd_p=470938811&pf_rd_i=507846  It has a variety of songs and rhymes on it.

We also have 1, 2, 3 Soleil: Songs for Learning French.  https://itunes.apple.com/us/album/1-2-3-soleil-songs-for-learning/id29854268 There are samples of the songs on iTunes.  When I put on the French music my older son requests that one.

http://www.youtube.com/user/tialela99/videos - A guy (I think out of San Francisco) who does French and English children's songs.  He has his videos and songs available for purchase on his website, but we so far we have always just played them on youtube.

Un deux trois first french rhymes - book with CD - fantastic http://www.amazon.ca/Un-Deux-Trois-French-Rhymes/dp/1845076230/

Songs in French for Children - CD only, but has booklet with lyrics - our daughter has always loved this, still does (4 yrs old), and I actually don't mind listening to it.

We are using "Teach Me Everyday French" in the car.  It is a good fit for us.

Disclaimer: We don't drive nearly as far as you in the car.

The book/cd has songs sung in French and English, and French speaking.  I count 19 songs.

Example:

P.4: Song: The More We Get Together (in French and English)

P.5: Speaking in French: Bonjour.  Je m'appelle Marie. Comment t'appelles-tu?  Voici ma famille: ma mere, mon pere, mon frere, moi.

P.6: Speaking in French: (about the cat)

P.7: Speaking in French (about the dog)

P.8-9: Voici ma maison (and description of the house and bedroom).
Song: Alouette (in French only, I think)

Song: Are You Sleeping/Frere Jacques in French and English.

The book is colorful and has large print.  Dd7 can look at it in the car, but currently it is in the house because it can be helpful to go over it together, away from the cd.

Tonight, we sang (without help from the cd) "The More We Get Together" in French on the way home in the car.

--------------------------------------------------------

We have copied our cd.  We keep the original in "the vault," and the copy goes in the car. That way, if it gets destroy in the Iowa heat and freeze of our car, we can make another.

I love that crocodile song!  Just the idea of crocodiles going off to war with the elephants has always made me laugh...

We listen to a lot of audio books by Marlene Jobert.  These come with an illustrated book that you can read/translate first until you have an idea of what is happening, then listen to the audio.  She has very clear pronunciation, but the books/CDs are made for native speakers, so they are a bit fast.

I also like Carla Bruni's CDs.

Also, Harmonium (Quebec band).  Their tunes are melodic and the words are quite intelligible.  Some lyrics available here, so you can check for suitability:  http://www.lyricsmode.com/lyrics/h/harmonium/harmonium/

Charles Aznavour is great too.

Don't know how old your kids are, but Passe Partout is sort of Quebec's answer to Sesame Street.  Sweet and low key; very 70s.

I heartily second Passe-partout. We bought the DVDs and my kids really loved watching it. If you want songs only, there are probably discs with just that, or you could pull it from the DVD. We also listened to Carnaval des Animaux and Le chevre de M Seguin on CD, with music. Another favourite is Rondes et comptines pour chanter et danser. These children's songs are extremely easy to sing-along to and become games outside the car.
