It says he was in Game of Thrones, but I don't watch that show so I don't know if he was a bad guy in it or not.  He was on Doctor Who too. I'll have to rewatch that episode tonight.

Diana Gabaldon just announced on twitter that Tobias Menzies has been cast as Frank/Black Jack Randall.

That's all well and good, but I am still waiting for book eight :toetap05: and if DG pulls the same stunt as last time... "Oh, did I say EIGHT books?  Silly me, there will be NINE!  Look for the next book in 2019!"  I will be :cursing: .

Eight will be here in March, and she said a couple years ago that there will be a book 9 b/c there's no way she could wrap up the story in just one more book.   Last week she said there will even be a book 10, but it will focus mostly on Brian & Ellen (and Murtagh) and their story.

I can see him playing both roles well. he has sort of that look behind his eyes...or maybe it was just the sun? I cannot believe these books are FINALLY being made into movies. Be still my heart....who is playing Jamie? It needs to be a real Scotsman, I think. Definitely not an American faking the accent.

It's not movies, it's a cable TV show.  This is from an interview Ron Moore (exec prod) gave a couple weeks go at Comic-Con.

Moore enthusiastically reveals that they’ll be shooting the series in Scotland this fall. “It’s a really an exciting piece. We have 16 episodes. It’s a big production, and if you know the books at all, it’s a big, sweeping story.â€

“We’re at pains to really follow the books,†he says to assure concerned readers. “One of the great things was Starz said to us early on was, 'We love the books, we think they are great so let's make the [show] for the people who love the books. Let’s make it for the fans of the books first and trust that anyone who doesn’t know the material will get swept along in the story like everyone else does.' Nobody ever says that,†Moore laughs. “Typically studios and networks just say, 'Yeah, we don’t really care about the book. We bought it for the cover or whatever…' and then dispense with it very early on [in the process]. This was the rare time when everybody said this is great material and we like the story and these characters so let’s try to get as close to the books as possible in the show and that’s what we are doing.â€

Here's a fan page with photos of Tobias as the many faces of Frank/BJR.

Jamie will be played by Scotsman Sam Heughan.  About his audition tapes, Diana said:

“Oh. My. God. That man is a Scot to the bone and Jamie Fraser to the heart. Having seen Sam Heughan not just act, but be Jamie, I feel immensely grateful to the production team for their painstaking attention to the soul of the story and characters.â€

There's a HUGE fan group out there - google "heughligans" if you're interested.

Oh, and if you're on twitter, Sam tweets back to his followers, and sometimes he'll drop off photos or Jamie quotes. You cannot imagine the uproar the day he tweeted “Christ, Sassenach. I need ye.†   He promises a surprise soon (I'm guessing that means once he returns to London, as he's on his way to LA right now - meeting with STARZ perhaps?) and most fans are hoping it's a kilt pic.

Nooooooooo!

For sure she could wrap up the story in just one more book.  So what if it has 3000 pages?  It could be sold with a little stand to rest it on, like a dictionary stand.  Or as an ebook.

I'm SO excited. I think the casting of Frank's Character is good. I never liked Frank, either and thought he had a very negative personality.. So, it will be interesting to see it all come together for the show. I wish they would hurry up and release who Claire will be. I read on the FB page that they are doing audition call backs this week. I watched two different videos. One I really liked.

Whenever I think of Gabaldon's Frank, I envision Frank Burns from MASH....rat face!

I am on pins and needles waiting for Claire.  Are you following the #Heughligans on Twitter?  I'm following a bunch of them, and am also a member on the facebook page Heughan's Heughligans.  They are a crazy, fun bunch of gals!

I hadn't heard about a tenth book.  That is exciting.  I would not mind at all if she just kept writing.  I love Jamie and Claire, and their family, and never want her to stop sharing them with me (the reader).  After 20 years, I'm going to morn the end like a family member dying.  LOL
