Lanny
There are many advantages to Home Schooling or Distance Learning, but this is one that we had not anticipated...My wife has mentioned this, a number of times. After DD switched, from a brick and mortar (actually, concrete and brick) school here, to Distance Learning from Texas Tech University ISD (TTUISD), within the first semester, our family became much closer. When DD attended the "brick and mortar" school, I would wake her and my wife, at 450 A.M., on school days. A mad dash (Breakfast, brush your teeth, etc.) and they left for the corner, to wait for the van, at 550 A.M. At 3 P.M., I would walk to the corner, to wait for the van to bring DD home. Now, we eat meals together, as a family, we talk a lot more, and the family is more close knit. :-)
m0mmaBuck
My family has noticed this added benefit to HS'ing as well.

strange_girl
This is one of the main reasons we homeschool. Our kids are so dear to us and it is so important to always be close to them. Without relationship you have nothing.

Lanny
What time did school start? I think at 7 A.M. And I believe the school day ended at 3 P.M., or just before that.

Desert Strawberry
This is one of those benefits that I think you have to experience first-hand to appreciate. I know that for me and many homeschoolers I know, just having time to be together is such an important factor. We did one year of PreK while my DH worked and I finished college. It was awful. We knew we didn't want that forever. I am so happy for your family that you found a way to make this work. The benefits are far reaching. Nscribe
When Dd was in school, it often felt like we had her only when she was tired or on the way to something else. Although her life is far fuller and more active as a homeschooler, we really do appreciate being more a part of it generally and not having to sign in or undergo a background check just to be a part of her waking hours. We love that we can schedule the big projects and assignments so that the choice between time with extended family or failing to meet someone else's deadline is not there. Dd finds that many of her in school friends complain about not being able to do as much on weekends because their families insist that time be for family as it is the only time they have available. I am glad we don't have to say no to something she would enjoy and benefit from just because it means giving up the only remaining time during the week.
