gaillardia
cutting poblano peppers. Yeah, help. It really burns.
Lisa in Jax
Rinse with saline, and lots of it. It won't help a lot, b/c peppers have oils, and water (saline) won't dissolve it, but it will help some. So sorry!! ETA: it looks like whole milk might help. http://www.ehow.com/list_6300470_remedies-hot-pepper-eye.html
sassenach
Milk! Or half and half would be better. The fat molecules bind with the capcaison (sp?), which is what burns.
jenn-
:grouphug: BTDT more than once. No help for now, but for the future you need to use gloves when cutting hot peppers. Washing doesn't help, even 12 hours later I have burned my eyes while taking out my contacts. Do you have eye drops you can rinse with? gaillardia
So far I've rinsed my eyes w tap water. Washed my eyelids with soap (add insult to injury but I think it helped some) and have been considering using saline although I am almost out of saline solution. I thought milk might help, but really, that's so gross! Thank you ! :crying:
gaillardia
And my next question: What about my contacts? Can you guess, I had the dumb idea to put one in and again experience utter agony. I think I must have a high threshold for pain that I can find this so amusing. So are they ruined or should I soak them in milk? ETA my pain is mostly gone. I washed my eyelids again with oil of olay soap, rinsed a lot with warmish tap water, rinsed with saline.

jenn-
Toss them. The contacts will cause burn for several days later.
JuanitaL
I've never had this problem with my eyes - but I used to have my nose pierced (the stud had the spiral end and it kept twisting around where you could see a silver thing in my nostril) - after cutting fresh jalapenos for a sandwich one day I just wasn't thinking and poked that spiral end back around to it's proper place in my nose ..... I thought I would surely die, it was an almost instant and agonizing pain. Then I thought my family would surely die laughing at me.
