Halcyon
I posted something about this before but didn't get many responses, so I thought I would try with a different header. DS10 has completed Units 1-4 of Henle, and is almost finished with the 2nd semester of Lone Pine Latin, which is typically considered a high school course although we know there are a couple of 6th 7th and 8th graders in there... He is the youngest in the class, and we have decided that, although we think the class is EXCELLENT, it is probably too intense for our son at his age. It is crowding out other subjects and though he is doing well, I think the cost is too high. So, we are on the hunt for another Latin curriculum. He would be entering Latin 200 with Karen if he were to continue, which is considered a 2nd year high school Latin class, and was using Lingua Latina after doing a parts to whole curriculum with Henle for almost 2 years. I am considering Latin Prep 2 or SYRWTLL but not sure which is more appropriate. It needs to be something that can be taught easily, or basically teaches to the student. My younger is starting LL Big Book 2 in the fall and I wish there was something like this for older. I think Latin Prep looks good--he has covered some of the material in it already, but review will be good for him. I appreciate any feedback. ETA: I am also looking at Cambridge Latin--it seems to have a nice combo of reading and grammar, plus the extra books look good. Where would I place him? Book 2? TracyP
You might get more advice if you x-post on the hs board. I didn't see your first thread so if you already tried there, ignore me. :)
Laura Corin
Latin Prep is designed for that age group. It moves a little slower (and has more silliness in it) than SY Latin. Laura
JudoMom
My oldest's favorite Latin program ever is Latin Prep 1. Well, actually, it's Visual Latin, but Latin Prep is a close 2nd. They're both a bit on the quirky-humor side. Have you looked at the online classes Dwayne at Visual Latin offers for Lingua Latina?

I did all 3 of the lessons with Melissa that were free and we both loved it. I just don't know if I want to spend 85.00 on it.
Dmmetler
If you pay about $10 USD, you can get access to all the online helps for CLC, all four levels, which includes much of the reading/translation. That wold let you evaluate where to place him. My DD is working on Stage 2 of CLC, although she only did about half of it so far, so my gut feeling is that he'd probably place higher, but it is a whole-part program and therefore is quite different in feel than Henle.
