aggieamy
DD has been doing Duolingo (wonderful program BTW!) and I'd like to get her some easy to read books to work on also. The vocabulary in picture books is too hard so I was thinking about early readers but I don't know any series to look for on amazon.de. Same with early chapter books - something along the difficulty level of Magic Tree House or Henry and Mduge in German. Danke!
Arcadia
These might be too easy - Free german books (pdf) by Hans Wilhelm http://www.childrensbooksforever.com/childrenpages/German1.html We borrowed these from the library http://www.amazon.de/Die-Bremer-Stadtmusikanten-James-Kr%C3%BCss/dp/3480074642 http://www.amazon.de/Hokuspokus-Nacht-Winfried-Opgenoorth/dp/347333667X This might be closer to what you want http://www.ravensburger.de/shop/buecher/kinder-jugendliteratur/index.html

4KookieKids
Have you tried the Leserabe for first grade? I know that I was just perusing for "early readers" a while back (not that my son is anywhere close, but...) and I found that there are "early readers" in German, but they're nothing like "early readers" are here, where we have two to four words on a page, and they don't make full sentences most of the time. My guess (I've no idea if this is actually true) was that it was because most Germans do learn to read in school (as opposed to earlier), and the language is just so phonetic, that once they know the basics of reading, they can jump right into text that's much more advanced than our early readers. Just a guess, though. :)
Arcadia
This is one of my favorite. It is about preschool standard Mein Allererstes Deutsches Büchlein (My Very First German Book) http://memory.loc.gov/service/rbc/rbc0001/2003/2003juv17556/2003juv17556.pdf

Muttichen
I love Wir Kinder aus Bullerbü by Astrid Lindgren. It's a translation, not a "real" German book, but it's a sweet story. We read the book aloud together, listened to the audiobook, and then watched the movie.
Arcadia
Found a very helpful 19 pages book list out out by King County Library. It is separated into five age groups from babies to teenagers. http://www.egls.us/pdf/2008-03-KCLS-German-Language-Books.pdf
DoppeltGemoppelt
I used this for my kids http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/3061001360/ref=mp_s_a_1_29?qid=1371817762&sr=8-29&pi=SL75 I got mine on eBay for less though. It is only one book, but has short stories starting with only 3 letters up to full page stories and poems.
Mom-ninja.
I have readers that came with the curriculum my cousin sent me. We also like Lesemaus and the Conni books. I've also found books randomly by searching around on Amazon.com and some were free or very inexpensive.
