when you have to eat on the go...or more specifically when you are at soccer games over the supper time? The obvious thing is sandwiches...but I don't want to rely on that every time...so can you all PLEASE give me some other thoughts? We are at soccer games 2 nights out of the week...for about 4 more weeks.

Well, I eat lunch in my car almost every day. I freqently take something like soup or chicken and rice, or even a frozen meal, and heat it up, and put it in a wide mouth thermos. If you had a couple of those, you could take many things--chili, soup, casseroles, taco meat (and take other stuff in plastic containers, then put together there).

Pasta salad, with chicken or cheese in it, would be good.

Other salads with a nut/fruit/cheese in them would be good.

I take heated taco meat or beans in a thermos and put it on chips or tortillas there. Sides come in glad ware. Cooked pizza eaten cold (my kids like it cold). Cooked chicken breast chunks in thermos served on salad or in a pita.ir it's a chilly evening soup in a thermos served I mugs with crackers. Ham and cheese cubes with cut up fruit on skewers. Raw veggies and. Pita to dip in hummus and crumbled feta. Can you tell we are at sports in the evening often.

I bring soup in a thermos for the siblings to eat, and a wrap or deli plate for the player(s).

Deli plate is sliced turkey, cubed cheese or a hard-boiled egg, grapes or an apple, and a few grissini breadsticks or slice of sourdough. If they're still hungry when we get home, I have soup still on the stove (or put away in the fridge for a quick re-heat).

Sometimes instead of the deli plate we do wraps - usually when we have leftover chicken pieces. I throw in the chicken, lettuce, and then (depending on the kid) tomatoes, onions, cucumbers, and some kind of dressing. It holds up well enough. I find the wrap is less ... heavy ... than sandwich bread.

It gets boring, but they just know that during season it's repetitive, boring meals or ... you may stop playing your sport. I don't mind which,

but it's one or the other LOL.

ETA: When I know we'll have a late night (sometimes we have games from 5p straight until 10p, between all of the kids) we do a huge lunch and then a more snack-y dinner like popcorn and fruit or raw veggies or something. Between the lunch and the following morning's big breakfast, they've always been fine. I'm always fine if they re-heat oatmeal or soup when we get home, if it's not too late - not a meal's worth, but enough to tide them over if they're absolutely starving still. It's not often that they need to.

We often bring black bean burritos when on the go. They don't have to be kept warm -- room temp is fine. Black beans flavored with a little garlic and pepper, and a slice of cheese, all rolled up in a flour tortilla. We roll each one individually in plastic wrap or foil, and toss them in a paper bag.

For baseball, I sometimes make a batch of rice, add some cut up seasoned chicken breast, and steamed broccoli. I portion it into plastic containers and stick it in a cooler bag with icepacks, which I want to have at the field anyway. I bring plastic forks and napkins. It is really nice to have real food at a place where the only food available is pretzels and hot dogs.

sandwiches - you can use bread, croissants, or pita with all kinds of fillings, bagels - with cream cheese and ham or lox, hearty pasta salads, chicken salad etc can be used as sandwich fillings. if you had a big enough thermos - you can bring a hearty soup with some rolls on the side.

Bento boxes are popular here. Or we can fill our short Kleen Kanteens with a soup or chili.

My kids' favorites are biscuit balls or turnovers, though. I'll take biscuit dough or pie crust, make flat circles, and add a spoonful of toppings:

bbq chicken leftovers w/mashed potato, onion, and cheese

taco fillings

shredded pork or beef

chicken, veggies, ginger, and a little bit of sweet chili sauce

Really, whatever is leftover from the night before. Then either folded over or the sides get pinched up into a ball shape. They get quickly baked up, left to cool, and put in a tupperware container in the fridge. The next morning everyone gets 2-3 along with some fruit, cheese, sticky rice, salad...and they get packed in the car with an ice pack on top.

As a sports mom you have to give up th idea of a specific dinner time. Took me years to accept that. Soccer season isn't bad for us, but baseball, oh my. This week (M-F) we have 2 practices and 3 games. When a game falls over dinner we either have. Snack before the game, dinner after and I bring fruit to snack on during the game. Or we do an early dinner with a snack afterward.

The crockpot is your friend. You can get everything cooking and then whenever you want you can eat. This irks great for us because the kid with a game can eat early, then after I group them off to warm up the rest of us eat. Daddy can eat hen err he gets home.
