Need food ideas for afternoon birthday party.

I'm having a birthday party for my 1 year old in 2 weeks. The party starts at 2 and we are having cake and ice cream of course. It will probably be mostly adults with a few kids sprinkled in. I would like to serve a few appetizers to go with the cake but nothing too heavy. I need a few ideas because 1) I'm not very creative and 2) I'm tired of the same old party food. There are no food allergies to worry about :)

Lil smokies wrapped in part of a pillsbury crescent roll and baked. If I remember right you can get 3 out of 1 crescent roll

Mexican 7 layer dip with chips

Fruit Salad served in small cups

We do our wrapped Smokies with less dough--just wrapped around the middle--and get 6 per roll. We especially love them with sweet hot mustard for dipping.

Meatballs are always a big hit. For my grandma's 90th birthday last week we just put Costco meatballs, Sweet Baby Ray's BBQ Sauce, and crushed pineapple in a crock-pot and everyone raved.

Those meatballs sound yummy!

For our two-year old's party which lasted from 2-4 (with most people leaving a little after 5), we had a spread of pita chips and hummus, chips with guac and salsa, fruit platter, mozzarella with basil and tomato and whole wheat baguette, some brie and some veggie chips. The biggest hits were the mozzarella platter and the fruit. We didn't have much of anything leftover at the end of the party though! We served cupcakes and ice cream and had pink lemonade and mint iced tea for beverages.

Mexican rollups - cream cheese/sour cream (about equal measures) just enough salsa to color it pink, shredded cheese (Mexican or cheddar), then spread on flour tortilla, roll them up, wrap individually in saran wrap, chill. Right before guests are to arrive, pull out and unwrap and cut in 1" long segments. Yummy! You can add various things to this - shredded chicken taco meat, chopped olives, jalapanoes, etc

I also make a feta dip that is wonderful (if you like feta!)

1 lb feta (french blends well)

½ lb cream cheese (8 oz)

¼ lb unsalted butter (1 stick)

1 clove garlic – minced very fine

Blend in food processor till very smooth

¾ cup sundried tomatoes

optional: parsley, fresh basil, green onion

Line a 6†round mold with saran wrap. Put in ½ the tomatoes (rehydrated) sprinkle with basil and toasted sesame seeds. Then add ½ the feta mixture, then the rest of the tomatoes, basil and the remaining feta mixture. Cover with saran wrap and keep in refrigerator at least 24 hours to firm.

This is wonderful with pita chips!

I'd probably do a fruit tray, a veggie tray, chips and salsa, nuts of some kind, and maybe a cheese tray with crackers. I think it's good to have a mix of carbs/proteins. This way nothing needs to stay hot. If I were thinking of doing something hot, I might do a brie wheel or a hot cheese dip.
