Sweepy Posted April 6, 2013 Share Posted April 6, 2013 It's our first year in Home Educating and I've done 2nd and K. My Kindergartener is reading pretty well. We did 100 Easy Lessons so now she just reads out loud to me her choice of library books daily. She did Handwriting Without Tears and followed that up with Kumon Book of Writing Words which she finished. I've ordered Kumon's Book of Simple Sentences but I think that's more beginning Grammar than handwriting. She's about half-way through Math-U-See Alpha. She does Science and History along side big brother where she dictates to me what she's learned and I write it out and she draws a picture of what she's dictated to me (about 3xweek). I just feel like she's breezing through everything and I don't know what to do next? It feels like 1st Language Lessons and Writing With Ease would be a bit premature for her at this point, she just doesn't quite seem ready for that level. Ecclecticmum Posted April 6, 2013 Share Posted April 6, 2013 Language Lessons for Little Ones, perhaps? Always remember that you could use FLL and others earlier, but do them orally instead. You could look at stuff like Five in A Row, Sonlight or the Core Knowledge Books. Or perhaps Language Language Arts through Literature? You have explained an overview, but are a little vague on what you want, type, and budget. If you have a printer and want free items, search for the Free Curriculum list on here. Are you wanting to concentrate on Language Arts? (to me, from what I read, it sounds like thats what your after). If happy to have to print stuff, maybe looking at currclick, Evan Moor, Teacher Filebox (Homeschool Buyers Co-op currently has it), or Scholastic Express or Subscription. Hoagies Gifted website might shed some light or have a browse through Rainbow Resource. Without knowing more about what exactly your after in the way of money, printables, or subjects, I can't really think of anything else. Walking-Iris Posted April 7, 2013 Share Posted April 7, 2013 Some literature study activities? Maybe something like Bravewriter's Jot it Down or Peak With Books? Or some geography? Some nature study? Start a small garden plot, collect some bugs, start some art and music activities and appreciation. Those might get you through the rest of the year. I guess I was mostly looking for resources since I've tried really hard not to become immersed in all the curricula options. It just seemed a bit overwhelming for me as a first year homeschooler. I was looking for more Language Arts arena to follow on with Reading, Writing specifically for her as some of the other ideas will still be good options for us for our combined studies. So, thanks so much for all the ideas so far. Now I can look into these sites and materials that have been suggested and see which one might be the best fit. Thanks!
