garddwr
My 7 year old has really taken to the LOF books in the past couple of weeks. He has read all of the elementary series, and parts of the Fractions, Decimals and Percents, and Physics books. I know he's just reading and not working the problems, but I figure he's got to be absorbing some of those math concepts along the way. I'd love to find more math-oriented books with an interesting story line similar to Life of Fred. What can you recommend?
Dmmetler
Penrose the Mathematical Cat and the others by the same author are favorites with my Fred loving DD.
wapiti
FWIW, my ds loved LOF so much that he did more than one book report on Fractions between first and third grades. He's good at math, but, unfortunately, nothing from the LOF books sunk in. It was just fun reading. You might look at the Murderous Maths books, which his twin brother liked around that same time. EKS
Beast Academy and some of Barron's EZ series.
Farrar
Check the Livingmath.net book lists. I'll second Penrose. Also, everything published by Charlesbridge in their picture book math series is excellent - among other things, they publish the Sir Cumference books. There's also the Animal Babies Math books, which are cute, though the math in them is pretty simple. And I also really recommend The Number Devil, which is a great book. dbmamaz
and also murderous maths, tho they might be slightly high reading level? i always recommend livingmath too - and i realized that if you go to the library and look up some of the books, you'll find other math readers nearby
garddwr
Thank you all for the recommendations. I will be checking the library first for these.
