Ugh -- influenza B! One DS has definitely has it and...

I bet the other one does, too. If poor DD gets it, I'm afraid it'll trigger her seizures.

Sat morning older DS woke up vomiting. Younger DS has a cough he's had since Thursday. I thought the cough sounded like it was from post nasal drop.

By Sat. Evening older DS is a mess (vomited about 12 times plus 100 F fever) and I had a funny feeling he needed some IV fluids. Took him to immediate care: zofran, bag of fluids. Dx dehydration and gastritis.

Come home to younger DS who has taken a bad turn...coughing, coughing, coughing and throwing up phlegm. We get him thru the night. Once he falls asleep, he stops coughing. When he woke up this morning, his cough was significantly better.

Until noon. Starts coughing again really bad and vomits. He's got a fever. Take him to immediate care. chest X-ray normal. Positive test for influenza B.

Come home and older DS is coughing. I wonder if he really has influenza B, too.

The PA said off school for younger DS for a week, minimum, until his fever is gone. DS started high school this fall and has had a rocky road, to say the least. I can't imagine how he's ever going to get caught up if he misses a week or more!

I feel so badly for them both!

:grouphug: I sure hope your guys can get over it ok without sharing with sis - or you!

Me, too!

It's weird how differently the boys presented. We thought they had 2 completely different things. But like I wrote, older DS seems like he is getting the cough now.

Thank you!

Hoping everyone feels better soon, and that not everyone catches the yuck. There are some bad bugs going around this year. :(

Thank you!

I was in shock when the PA said he had to be out of school at least a week.

I wonder if this is the beginning of an outbreak at the school?!?

I read that with suprise, too... But on reflection - it makes sense. We've had it here (DS had A & B, but I bet it's comparable) and it's honestly taken us a month to be on the mend. Please don't panic though - DS's went into sinusitis, then pneumonia. Aaack. But the initial misery, before all the complications was at least a week.

Lots of soup, movies, fluids, cuddles, and sleep.

And really hoping that there's not an outbreak at the school! That would be bad.

Yeah, it'd be bad...but both boys go to the same school, and I assume they got it there.

I'm sorry for what your DS has gone thru. That sounds miserable. Poor guy. Poor mama.

Spring is always late arriving in the land where you smell the Cheerios baking. The beautiful lake that keeps us cool in summer keeps spring away, too.

I'm washing my hands like crazy and trying to be super careful but I guess it's really contagious. Que sera, sera, right?
