songsparrow
I am wondering if there are any websites online where I can stream children's programming in French? The option to have English subtitles would be nice, but not necessary. I've been searching without luck. The Canadian sites that I found will not play for me, since I am outside of Canada. It seems like there is little to nothing available in French for kids through Netflix, Hulu or Amazon Instant Video.
Guest merylkatz
Hi, A couple of suggestions... First, is youtube. Online on Youtube: le triomphe de Babar (partie 1-2-3 …), Tchoupi … à la ferme… et doudou…, Oui-oui, Mimi la souris, Bonne nuit les petits … I have had the most luck with this. Second, most Disney movies on DVD have French language as an option under set up. So you can rent them at the library and choose French as the language option...just look on the back of any DVD case and it'll tell you what audio languages are available. Third, and I've not had luck with this but think I need to upgrade my Roku and maybe my ipad...with Netflix there are movies that say they have a language option available. I have been unable to figure out how to work it. I only get that question on my ipad, I think my Roku is too old and I don't get that question. I have not spent a ton of time trying to figure it out, but apparently it does exist. Good luck, Meryl
Stef03
^as Meryl said Youtube & DVD are great options. We use both of these but we prefer watching shows through French TV channel's streaming websites. We mostly use TF1 Replay http://videos.tf1.fr/videos-en-integralite/ but there are loads of options such as: http://replay.fr/jeunesse The only downside is that they require a French IP address... to get around this we have a subscription through http://www.vpnvision.com/ It costs us 4 euros a month but it's been worth the money for us (they have a free trial too). yvonne
Stef03, Thanks so much for posting the streaming sites. We watch French movies and turn on the French language option for English movies, but this looks like a great resource, too. Can you suggest any good shows or documentaries on the French TV sites? Thanks! yvonne

Thanks! yvonne Our favorite by far is on "C'est pas sorcier" which is aired on France 3 http://c-est-pas-sorcier.france3.fr/ I need to buy the DVD collection at some point. It is aimed at older kids than mine so it would probably be good for your kids. France 3 has the most documentaries in general, though we haven't explored them yet http://programmes.france3.fr/documentaires/ There's probably better tv channels out there by now, I'm only familiar with TF1, France 2, France 3 and M6. Angela Beshears
Just ran across this. http://www.onf.ca/chaines/jeunesse/ Played for me, and I live outside Canada. What I am looking for however, are very basic videos to help my children learn French- I just learned about a Spanish program out of the Georgia Public Broadcasting network called Salsa. (http://www.gpb.org/salsa) I would love something like this, but In French. Does anyone know of anything similar?

This one is meant for those whose first language is English: http://www.tvokids.com/shows/lulu This site is a French preschool site that would be good for basic vocabulary. Click on the numbers for counting videos, the letters for alphabet videos, and the food one for different fruits. http://www1.tfo.org/mini/Videos

Angela Beshears
See the first review here for an in-depth explanation. The short answer is to get the Canadian DVD: http://www.amazon.ca/Un-Monstre-Paris-Vanessa-Paradis/dp/B0089ATC1G/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1371092808&sr=8-1&keywords=un+monstre+a+paris
