Michelle T
Just saw the X-Files movie with DH and DS. We all enjoyed it very much, but agreed that it would appeal to those who have been fans all along, not so much those who did not watch the show. There were brief mentions of old cases, really just by name, and a reference to William, who was for the first time flat-out acknowledged as being the son of BOTH of them, not just Scully's son, and implied Mulder's. Despite enjoying it very much, I feel the movie won't do great at the box office. Good story, typical X-Files. I always liked the episodes where there was a religious figure and you couldn't be sure if they were good or bad. Actually, religion was a fairly common theme in many episodes. The story moved a bit more slowly than necessary, but was still enjoyable, and fairly suspenseful. Great interplay between Mulder and Scully, as always. Yeay, Mulder and Scully kiss, and are clearly together now! David Duchovny has certainly aged. Gillian Anderson looked good, although I miss her short, bright red hair. No particular reason for having Skinner in the movie, his brief part was just a toss-in. Make sure you watch all the way through the credits to the very end! Cute! happygrrl
I am so glad you posted this! I was scared to read the (mostly-negative-so-far) reviews. I was such a huge fan of the series. In fact, as a poor young in-college married couple X-files served as our weekly date. We would get a cheap-o pizza, one Dr. Pepper and one beer (the only ones we could afford for that week) and watch the show. I am hoping to recreate that vibe (our 13th anniversary approaches) with pizza at an upscale restaurant (and considerable more beverages), then... oh bliss... hangin' with M & S. (((((Thanks for putting up with all my parenthesis!)))))
Valerie in Chicago
DH & I went today and enjoyed it. It was kind of like a long version of the TV show... We weren't expecting much, having been disappointed by a few summer movies so far, so perhaps we didn't have as far to fall in our expectations? But it was creepy and "out there" enough to be the X-Files (anyone feel a dash of Silence of the Lambs thrown in?). Wish I'd known about the credits thing... if you get a chance, can you PM me with what it was? If not, no worries. =-)
