Card games for 7 people?

I've promised ds7 that we can play more card games. We got Uno and Pit for Christmas, and they are hits. What other card games are there that can be played by people ages 7-43? We like for the whole family to play, and there are 7 of us. And we're not overly fond of games that take hours. Youngest is pretty good at math, if that helps.

Barnyard.

Each player has a deck of cards and picks an animal. You all turn over a card at the same time (you can fun with ONE--TWO--GO). If your card is the same as another players card, the two of you try to make the OTHER persons noise first. If you do, you get the whole of that person's turned over stack. If no matches, you do again.

So, you have to scan the cards AND remember the other people's noises correctly, quickly.

It is sometimes more fun if the grownups are a bit tiddly.

Loot is good for younger players. There are MANY Gamewright card games that look like they would fit the bill! Frog Juice, Sleeping Queens, and Dweebies to name a few. :)

Spot It is pretty fun...our 6yo was very frustrated by it at first because he does not like to lose--EVER--lol, but he likes it now!

Quiddler...age 7 is a bit young, but still s/he'll grow into it - we enjoy it often. FUN!

We love Quiddler at my house. We have friends that are Scrabble champs and we never play with them because they get obscure words that we don't think really exist.

DD loves Gamewright card games. They aren't painful for adults the way Candyland is either. I've probably played a million games of Frog Juice and Sleeping Queens. Other ones that she likes are Rat-aTat Cat, Sherlock, and Horse Show.

These aren't adult games though and DD has pretty much outgrown them at 8 1/2 years old. (Although I bet if I asked her if she wanted to play Sleeping Queens right now she'd say yes.)

Oh Hell (also called Up and Down the River) -- we play this at family gatherings with tons of people. It might be a little hard for a 7 yo.

My grandma always called this game Pardon the Expression because it wasn't polite to swear.

Once==pronounced "on-say"

It's similar to Phase 10.

For 7 people, you'd need 3 decks (and your littlest will need help shuffling! lol ).

Pass out 11 cards. Each round, you collect different things, always adding one card.

Rounds:

1. 2 sets of 3 (same number) cards

2. 1 set of 3, 1 run of 4 (a run is cards of the same suit in sequence--so, 9/10/J/Q would be one, for ex.)

3. 2 runs

4. 3 sets

5. 2 sets, 1 run

6. 2 runs, 1 set--for this round, you deal 12 cards to each player.

You "lay down" when it is your turn. You can only lay down when you have a complete group of cards (for instance, the first round, you can only lay donw when you have 2 sets, not just partially what the round calls for).

You go around and choose one card like in Rummy from the top of the pile. OR, you can choose as many cards as you want from the discard row ( discard like in Rummy, where you can see them all). If the person whose turn it is doesn't want the discard card or cards, then they choose from the top of the undealt pile. THEN the discard pile is up for grabs, and anyone can take from it, even if it isn't their turn.

Once you have laid down, you can get rid of your other cards by laying off on other people's laid-down cards. YOu have to have a card to discard at the end of your final turn.

Hope that makes sense. It's similar to Rummy and is really, really fun.

Oh, and when someone goes out, you count up your cards and keep score (5pts for number cards, 10 for face cards, Aces are 15, IIRC). Lowest score at the end of the 6 rounds is the winner.

Hearts is fun, too, but it's a little more complicated (!) and requires knowledge of trump.

Bang!

The more the merrier, though our house rule for big groups is that if you have a Bang card, you have to play it. Otherwise, the game can take hours.
