How fast do you type?

When I left high school typing class in the early 80s I was typing about 30 wpm. Dd asked me how I can touch type. I told her practice. The curiosity got me and I took an online typing test. I was pretty surprised at the results - 82 wpm. Even when I worked as an administrative assistant I couldn't type that fast.

Now I know why typing on the iPad kills me. I have to use a stylus or two fingers.

Do you know how fast you type?

Last time I was timed, it was over 100 wpm, but that was when I worked as a Legal Secretary and had a lot of practice. I'm still quite fast. Computers now slow me down, though.

Just over 120 wpm or so depending on the day.

I get annoyed when I watch my husband type. Between his spelling errors that he corrects eleventy times and his slow speed, I start to twitch. He's good enough now that when we're at the computer together, he passes the keyboard and mouse to me.

In college using an electric typewriter, in order to pass the typing portion for a secretarial certificate, I had to type 80 wpm on a 5 minute typing test and 100 wpm for a 1 minute typing test. Any mistakes were counted against your speed.

For those of you who have given you current typing speed, for what duration of typing was that for? Was that without mistakes?

Mine was for 1min and was adjusted for mistakes.

I've never taken a typing class or taught myself the proper way to type. I "chicken-peck" rather quickly, but have never taken a test to find out how fast. Anyone have a link for a good one?

eta: never mind, found my own test

I type at 49 wpm with 1 error.

Hey that is darn good for chicken peck! I'm impressed.

I type fast for a living, so you think I'd do well with a typing test. The thing for me is that I type with abbreviations now, though, so that throws me off a bit. Most online tests will let me use my abbreviations but I feel choppy. Part of that is I also am used to typing from spoken words, not copying written text. I also don't type word-for-word so perfection from what I see/hear isn't my daily goal. All that to say, I've become a bad typist as I've become a skilled transcriber! ;-)

I'll go try and take a test ....

Not as fast as I used to be, about 85 wpm. I used to be much faster. Dh and I were in the same typing class as freshman in high school. No letters on the keys, and a strict teacher who used to walk around the room and hit your fingers with a yardstick if you looked down at your fingers. I made it through, poor dh did not.

I talk fast and type slow. lol

I only type in the 30's. Funny thing is...I type for a living. I am a pharmacy technician.

I have never, ever typed fast. In typing class I probably didn't hit 60wpm.

I am very fast at problem solving and can come up with many ways to solve problems. Since my job requires a lot of problem solving, I am actually considered very good at my job. I will just never be the fastest at it.
