SJ.
I will be the first to admit that when speaking of grammar I am no expert. I am curious if you think this is a properly written sentence: This week is special with it being January 7, 2013. It seems off to me. I think it is because I do not like the phrase "with it being" but perhaps that is just a matter of taste. Thoughts?
thescrappyhomeschooler
It sounds off because you're equating a week with one date. It doesn't make sense. It would be better to say something like: This week has a special day on January 7, 2013. Or something to that effect.
Reya
It is awkward but not agrammatical.

SJ.
It sounds off because you're equating a week with one date. It doesn't make sense. It would be better to say something like: This week has a special day on January 7, 2013. Or something to that effect. Thanks, that is exactly the problem. This sentence doesn't make any sense. No it doesn't. It is awkward but not agrammatical. Interesting. After reading thescrappyhomeschooler's reply I thought there would be some type of problem, maybe with tenses. Like I said, I am far from being a grammar expert.
Dana
I'd say there's a pronoun antecedent missing. What is "it" referring to?
Word Nerd
No, it is not grammatically correct. The "it" should be "its" (see here or here for an explanation of why) but even if that were changed, I would rewrite the whole thing because it doesn't make sense. regentrude
The sentence is grammatically correct, but semantically incorrect. It (i.e. the week) can not be Jan 7 (i.,e. one day).
Dandelion
I would say "This week is special as it is the week of January 7, 2013".
