dancer67
Has anyone baked this bread themselves? I bought a loaf at the store(I am cutting down on carbs and sugar) and I was expecting it to taste horrible, but it was actually really good. Problem? COST. It is $5.49 a loaf!!! If you have made this, how hard is it, and where to buy the ingredients? I found a recipe at Allrecipes, but some of the things I didn't recognize.Oh, and I have never baked ANY bread before... :crying:
dancer67
Do you have to get the flour and such at a health food store?
Amy in KS
Do you have a trader joe's? They have a sprouted bread that is their generic of ezekial. In my opinion, it's much better. Best of all, it's much cheaper. I think it's $2.80? $2 something. Cook's illustrated has a recipe for sprouted bread, but I've not made it. dancer67
Yes, actually I do. But it is about 40 minutes away. If you freeze it, do you know how long it will keep? Because then I could buy 4 loaves at a time. And that would last me quite a while.
misidawnrn
My mother in law freezes her Ezekiel bread and only takes out a piece at a time.
dancer67
Thanks. This is good to know. So when I got to TG, I can get quite a few loaves and freeze them.
HollyDay
Yes, I have made Ezekiel bread quite a few times. It is not difficult. But, you do need all the ingredients ground. I have a wheat grinder, so I just mix up a bunch of the ingredients then measure it out and bake.
TraciWA
Would love the recipe for this! :bigear:
AmyontheFarm
I would love to see your recipe also! I love Ezekial bread, the english muffins, the sesame bread, the raisin bread, the tortilla. Yummy! We can only buy the frozen here and my children like them also. They are expensive, but it's the only bread I can eat without pain, so it's worth every single penny to me. I wish I could however find a recipe for the bread maker. Any suggestions?

mellifera33
If you're really hardcore, you can try cooking it the traditional way, over the traditional fuel. ;)
TeachingTwins
Bread Beckers is a local store for me, and I get everything there that is needed to grind for Ezekiel flour. My favorite thing to bake is Ezekiel muffins! And the kids love Ezekiel pancakes. Yum. According to Sue Becker from Bread Beckers, an Ezekiel muffin can be considered a full serving of protein, which I think is great.
