Am I a freak for schooling the kids today, or just for all the usual reasons?

I totally did it, and I'm thinking we may even do a little tomorrow afternoon. We did a full day, at the grandparents house while everybody else watched the boob tube. It was fun, and I think it helped them behave well at the crowded family Christmas Eve party tonight.

 

It's nice that they're young enough not to know better yet.

we homeschool year round, and we don't celebrate Christmas. so in the past we have carried on just like any other day. At the beginning of this year my children requested that they have every public holiday off. So we are. and you know what, tit is really really nice to have a break for a couple of days.

Whatever works, I say. Dd was asking about school this afternoon and I said we'd do it tomorrow. I'm not doing school at 5pm on Christmas Day, and that's my final word on the matter!

If school provides a good experience and everyone likes it, I don't see a problem doing work on holidays. But if school is like pulling teeth then I think a holiday is a much needed break from all that.

 

I remember when my kids liked school. Dd14 used to work on weekends too. That changed as they got to middle school age.

Well I don't know if it is crazy or not, but we are doing the same. We have stuff we need finished before the end of the year, and DS actually likes the work we are doing. So, when things calm down for the day, we will do a section of it if he still wants to, and I suspect he will. :)

Today is a normal Tuesday for us. Ds did some handwriting and will do math and phonics after playing in the snow. Dd took her math test and did her handwriting and will do the rest after snow.

If DH wasn't home, I'd totally do school with them but dad being home from work is a grand event in their minds all by itself — all they can focus on is "doing something" playful with dad from the moment they wake.
