Christmas crud

Anyone else have to change Christmas plans due to illness?

A week and a half ago, my son had the 24 hour flu. Then right after that

he came down with a cold. Then my daughter caught it. Then I did. I've been

without energy or clearly thinking brain since Friday, so maybe it was more flu

than cold. Some sort of virus, anyway.

Our plan was to open some presents tomorrow morning, then go see The Hobbit,

then come back and enjoy a opening a few more presents.

My husband just sent me a text from work a few minutes ago saying he has the aches

and the chills and a massive headache. Great. Looks like we won't be going anywhere

tomorrow.

This has been a weird December. We haven't made it to any group Christmas parties.

Some were because they were all planned the same day. Others were because of this, that,

or the other thing.

Anyone else experiencing an 'off' December/Christmas?

Youngest had a cold last week. She got over that. Middle had a one-day crud and recovered last week. This morning, middle complained that her neck was sore which I dismissed as sleeping wrong. She fell asleep on the way back from the allergist and was running a fever when she got home.

We were going to go to the North Pole today then up to the mountains Wednesday. Youngest now has a sore neck and has started running a fever. Middle now has a sore throat, fever and cough. I think that flexible just might be the word we need for this Christmas. So far it isn't as bad as the year oldest broke his collar bone on the first day of our Christmas ski trip.

Christmas is still Christmas if we're sick and if our plans don't work out.

DS2 had a virus last week with high fevers, and DH had bronchitis which he got abx for. They both recovered by Saturday, and DS1 and I were fine until Sunday evening - now we both have the virus with high fevers and congestion. We will still open presents tomorrow, and DH is going to make a ham, which I am not sure we will feel like eating. Oh well.

Both of my kids and I have nasty colds - presumably my husband will be next. And my 3 1/2 year old has pinkeye. The last thing he did before heading to bed on Christmas Eve wasn't hanging up his stocking or sharing in joyful Christmas anticipation - it was having Daddy hold him down while Mommy squeezed erythromycin ointment in his poor little eyes. And it will be the same routine on Christmas morning! Ho ho ho!

Yes! Our DD and her family were going to spend Christmas with the in-laws out of state. The plan was to have them along with the other kiddoes here over for Sunday dinner and then open gifts for the family who would be traveling.

I baked and prepped all.day.saturday. Saturday night they called, grandson had a 102 fever and had been throwing up off and on since Wednesday. Sunday was scrapped.

Today we called to check up on them, and DD who is pregnant and in the throws of morning sickness is now in bed with a fever and more nausea than she can deal with. DH was still at work and as they had been planning to leave the state when he got home at noon, they had not much food in the house. My plans for a relaxing day turned into several hours of cooking them a pot of chicken soup and some homemade bread and a trip to the grocery store for applesauce, jello, 7 - up, etc. Then home to cook dinner for the ones who were still planning on being her for dinner.

Daughter has the menu for tomorrow. I am pretty done.

Well, my 88-yr-old fil is in the hospital AGAIN for shortness of breath...he has been in for two days each week for the past couple weeks. After leaving Sunday afternoon, he had to go back in that night :-( and now is being kept until at least Thursday, since no one can do the test the doctor wants until after Christmas. Then he will need to be on oxygen, and use a wheelchair. He is not a happy camper (plus my mil passed away less than a month ago.) We will spend part of Christmas Day in the hospital visiting him.. I have a plate of cookies for the nursing desk, too.

So it could be worse. My hubby is having a miserable holiday season.

Count us in too. My 3 yr old had it last week (24 hr flu, just laid on the couch sickly). The 5 yr old got it yesterday and I enjoyed it last night and today. My 5 yr old slept for 18 hrs straight. He's bouncing back slower than I am and we missed a family Christmas and Christmas Eve service tonight.

All of us are sick. I have used a nebulizer already today. We put off Christmas eve dinner and used holiday paper plates from the dollar store to eat pizza on. We had ice cream sandwiches for dessert instead of cheesecake. I hear all of my family in their respective beds hacking away. My chest is super tight. Maybe we will do our Christmas ham for new years, lol. Hope you all get to feeling better.
