Who is on Christmas break?

I'd planned to go on a regular schedule through this week. But the older two boys fell behind a bit on their work from last week while studying for their SanKyu (senior blue belt) test for Judo.

And then I looked at my schedule next week--I'd planned to bake up a storm and wrap presents and do all the things to get ready for Christmas. But next week we have 5 dentist appointments, 1 eye appointment, 1 minor outpatient procedure, and I need to get my liver biopsy scheduled before the end of the year and I'd love to just get it over with next week.

So I told them all that as soon as they finish what they should've finished last week, they're on break. I don't really have any teaching left to do, so I think I'm on break now. If I have time, I'll do a bit of teaching with the younger boys, but I'm not too worried about it.

I need the break and I need to regroup and come up with a plan of attack for next semester. We'll start again on either the 2nd or 3rd of January.

When are y'all stopping?

We started Christmas break this morning! Feeling like a bit of a weenie for doing so early, but their big gift came last week...a new golden retriever puppy! We are getting NOTHING done between middle of the night potty breaks (a very tired mommy!), cleaning up after said puppy and his big sister around the house and, of course, playing with the cute little bugger! So, I caved and went on break. At least this way, I can manage to get caught up on grading and get ready for Christmas!!

Learning to care for a new puppy is educational, isn't it? :)

Not yet. I plan to do light school at least all the way up until the days DH is off from work. We have some stuff we HAVE to keep going on......reading for our reading club, merit badges for scouts, writing class will wrap up today, just some loose ends.

Math and History and Science are already on break.

Absolutely! We got Jed last year as soon as the school year was starting. I threatened to make the boys train him in Latin so that way I could justify the loss of school time.

What's the puppy's name? Any pictures?

I'm ready to stop, but not because of being so busy. I'm just tired and need a long break! We'll soldier on through Dec. 20th, following the public school schedule since dd14 is in school. I don't know if I'm going to make it that long! Our days are just dragging right now. And ds16 has a 5 - 7 page paper due in English. We have zero motivation to do this thing right now. His preparations are downright pitiful!

Today is our last piano lesson until after break, and the last day of the older two boys' enrichment program (the younger 3 have their last day tomorrow). I'm glad they end on the early side!

I've got zero motivation right now, too. This semester has shown me some of my limits, and I'm looking forward to having fewer commitments in when we start back up.

We are! I usually take the month of December off because we need it and I want to immerse myself in projects for gifts or family. Also I decided this year we would pretty much sequester ourselves till the holiday season is over. Last year dd got very sick and Christmas morning was miserable for her. Not worth going out to activities and catching something. I bought her tons of crafts projects to learn...stitching, quilting, embroidery, latch hook, cross stitch, crochet, and art supplies. For now we get to stay in our pjs, craft together and listen to books on cd....heaven.

I wish I could be on break. Oldest is coming home tomorrow!!!!

Middle auditioned for the youth symphony's second level orchestra and made it.

Youngest and I would much rather cuddle on the couch, bake cookies, or play in the snow than do anything else.

I'm ready for some Christmas and some break, BUT we're going on until the 20th. Schedules and all. Gotta keep swimming.

We are on "break". Piano recital was Sunday, so we are even taking a break from that for December. Much, much needed. We'll probably go a little later into summer than I had planned, but that is ok. We need some time right now.

I plan on trying to make it until Wednesday or Thursday of next week. We leave to go out of town on Saturday so I know I need at least a day or two to focus on that. We're trying to stay home to avoid getting sick so we're able to do school for the most part. It's been a busy semester and we're behind on history, science, Bible, etc so I'm trying to get caught up!

This is US (especially the exhausted mommy part)!!! We just got a new puppy - an Aussie mix - and she has been very time consuming! Plus, my sister just had a baby, and my mom was in town, and my in-laws before that (after Thanksgiving)... so with all the craziness, I decided to stop where we're at, and we will resume in full force in January. I refuse to carry stress and guilt that I'm not getting things done during a season that is already stressful :)

We've been on break since the week after Thanksgiving.

This is our usual long break. We work through the summer here because it's so dang hot anyway.

I also like the extra time during the holidays. I ebay and sell on etsy. We had a huge yard sale. I get extra cleaning clients during the holidays and I'm hoping someone will hire me to wrap their gifts for them. I have baking to do. But my shopping and wrapping is almost done. Cards are in the mail.

I still have work in the afternoon, but I love my free mornings! I am catching up on my digiscrapping. I fixed ds9's dresser pulls, cleaned out some closets, sorted toys, organized the garage a bit, cleaned out a few kitchen drawers. I love being able to catch up a bit. It makes me feel like I'm going to be going into the new year with my ducks in a row.

I still have some history to plan out. I have a few other things to get ready for school, too. We will head back Jan. 2. The holidays fall at inconvenient times of the week for a planner like me!

We are. :( Only because we've been so sick for so long. Well. Alright. It was me who was so sick. We've lost a good month of school already. And I'm still struggling to get over whatever this is. So we're going through recipes and making brownies and cookies out of whatever we already have in the pantry, watching Christmas movies, and reading out loud to each other. I just don't have the strength to get out work books and text books and print a bunch of stuff.

I am in this boat! I have been sick three times since October. I am now trying to get over it this third time. Dd came down with it on Sunday after having it the week before Thanksgiving. I'm exhausted, behind, and really have no idea of how much school we've missed. I had hoped to be crafting and baking, instead I'm sleeping and trying to do laundry when I have a little energy.

We are on Christmas break, such as it is, until January 2nd. If we spend most of the break sick, I may extend it until Jan. 7th when co-op starts again and actually enjoy the break from school.

:grouphug: That's us. I've been sick since the end of August. It's driving me insane. I even finally quit smoking back in October because I was TERRIFIED that my smoking was the reason. I'm glad that I quit, but I'm sooooo over being sick. I finally decided this morning that I might as well declare an official break and I'm going through our planners when I have the energy to shift stuff around and get back on track in January. Hope you feel better soon!!

We started the tradition early on in our homeschooling to take a winter break from the 1st or 2nd week in December to January 2nd. There is just too much going on and too many fond memories to be made to hit the books. I figure we're lucky to be able to make our own schedule so we take advantage of it. :D Our focus is shot anyway, so it would be pointless!

Congrats on your new pup! :D We basically started break this week. We have one reading assignment and study guide to finish and he's been working diligently to get it done. I think we have about an hour of discussion left and that's it until January 7th. I'm going to bake, organize, watch movies and read. Oh and probably double my exercise time so I don't gain from all the little goodies in our house. :drool5:

We're on Christmas break, as well. There's so much going on with the holidays that I wanted to free up that time to enjoy the festivities and each other without the stress of lesson plans and making sure that school was actually done. It's worked out pretty well seeing as we have all been sick this past week.

We're on a sick break right now and I still feel like a weenie for doing it. The way it's shaping up, we'll do school next week and then be off for 2 weeks, starting back on Jan. 7th. I might kill the girls if we don't do school sometime before then, but then again, it's ONE week of school and (said shamefully) we'd stop in the middle of a country in ECC if we did go back next week.

Hmm, I wonder what I should do?

Oh, we wouldn't start back until the 7th because Rebecca has daytime practices that first week in January.

Hope you do too! And Congrats for quitting! Good for you :) I've been sick since October, however, I had an abscessed tooth and a root canal in September so I have been down for longer. So over this!

Since I have one in public school, we follow his schedule. Our last day of school will be the 21st and we will have 2 weeks off. I wish he got off a little earlier but the district made many changes to this year's school calendar. We have been adding baking times and craft times to our days but still get all of our school work in. We let the kids work ahead on any of the school work that they want to if they know that there is a day that they are going to want off but we do not have it scheduled.

I would like to go ahead and start our break but I know that January will pretty much be taken off since #5 will be arriving. So we're just doing a lighter load right now, making sure to keep up on Math and a couple other subjects each day. Plus, I know that on days when we don't do any homeschool then it seems like DS1 and DD1 have too much time to play together and it degenerates into whining and brawling by the end of the day. So I'll keep up at least a few lessons a day as long as I can, just out of self-preservation.
