Just Kate
We are attending a Christmas party tomorrow night that has a Mardi Gras theme. I am completely stumped on what to take. I don't have any dishes that I normally make at all that would be considered that type of cooking (although I do like it!). Also, my kids are picky as can be, so I would love to take something they would like. Some people will bring fancy foods, others will bring more simple fare. I will definitely take a dessert, like cookies or brownies. But I just can't come up with a nice dish. Please help!!! ETA: Recipes would be helpful. Also, something easy would be great as well. thescrappyhomeschooler
Do you have to take Louisiana-style food? Do your kids like fried chicken? I'd probably take that if your kids will eat it.
Mrs Mungo
What...??? I am so confused. Why would someone have a *Christmas* Party with the theme of a *different* holiday? That is bizarre. I would take king cake, I guess? Or red beans and rice? Those seem like such weird things to take to a Christmas party. I can't wrap my head around it. Maybe I'll host an Easter get-together with a Halloween theme.

I guess I would go with rum cake if you want a dessert, or fried chicken if you want an entree.
SebastianCat
I'd probably bring what I knew my family would eat. I would expect to find a lot of food there that would be unfamiliar, so I'd bring something safe.

I know...this is an annual party and there is always a theme. We have only been going for a couple of years, so I have no idea how the theme even got started! Last year's theme was football tailgate, so people wore their team shirts and we ate tailgating food. I have never made actual red beans and rice before. Do you happen to have a yummy recipe? unsinkable
I adore this blog: Deep Dish South. This is the list to her Mardi Gras food page. and if we are "calling" holidays, I'm calling Independence Day BUT with a THANKSGIVING theme.
