hollyh
So I have eaten bananas all my life. For the past few years I have had at least one a day. All of a sudden for the past two months if I put one in a smoothie I get immediate painful stomach cramps for a few hours. Why would that be? I don't understand. Are the bananas under ripe?
hollyh
No dairy. Bananas could be under ripe. We have been getting them from Costco and I feel like they go from green to brown. Could that be the problem?

Could that be the problem? I'm not sure...I'd always "heard" underripe fruit could cause tummy problems but I'm not sure if it is an old wives tale. Home'scool
I have always had this problem with bananas! I remember being little and telling the pediatrician I was allergic to them because they always caused my stomach to cramp. Not horribly, but just uncomfortably. I always just assumed there was something about bananas that my body didn't like. Maybe you are developing something similar.
Kebo
You can develop allergies at any time, so you certainly could be allergic. Do you have any reaction to latex? There is a significant percentage of people with latex allergies who also react to certain foods, including banana.

Lolly
You may have developed an allergy. I know that my food allergy dd seems to develop allergies to the foods she eats with extreme regularity. I would certainly stop eating bananas if they were consistently causing me to have stomach cramps.
MiniBlondes
The exact same thing happens to me when I eat bananas. Sometimes, I will get nausea too. It's been a recent development, it started over the past year or so. It really frustrates me because I love bananas and I used to eat the almost daily. I had to stop eating them... although I will sneak a bite here or there. If i stick to eating 1/4 of a banana at a time, I don't have the issues.
