moonlight
I feel like a child asking this question..a child who has not done her homework properly! I am hosting our monthly book club in a couple of days and I just cannot come up with discussion questions for this book. I have read the book. I enjoyed the book, but my mind is on Christmas... These should be questions that the kids could discuss in small groups. Not really comprehension questions, but rather ones about the underlying themes of the book... I have one question so far: what makes a hero? Is Ranofer a hero? I just need 3 or 4 questions... I want to ask a question about the responsibility of someone to report a wrong, but I can't seem to word it correctly... That's it. I've got nothing else. Can someone help me out please? Lori D.
Here are a few ideas: - Why do YOU think the book is called "The Golden Goblet"? (Think about where golden goblets appear in the story; if the title might have more than more meaning; how the title might tie-in with theme; etc.) - Where does Ranofer find moments of friendship in the story? Why is it hard for him to accept/receive friendship? - What losses and disappointments does Ranofer suffer, and how does he handle this? - If you were Ranofer, would you have tried to catch Gebu? Why or why not? - Ranofer broke the law in order to expose Gebu's crime. Do the ends justify the means? - Do you think Gebu was a nasty person before he found out he had to take care of Ranofer? Explain. - How did the Egyptians' beliefs in the gods and the afterlife influence Ranofer's actions? Gebu's actions? - What character traits (i.e., things like courage, kindness, loyalty, etc.) does Ranofer exhibit in the story? How about Hequet? - What lesson(s) do you think Ranofer learns during the course of the story? - What do you think was the most exciting part of the book?
