Annie Laurie
I found a discussion forum while googling about a topic I'm interested in. I went to register, and they ask for info such as your full name, the names and ages of all your children, what you do for a living, etc. They tell you only the admin sees this and no one else will, but I felt that was just too much personal info to be required to share, and didn't finish registering. happi duck
Yes, I don't give out info like that lightly.
Mrs Mungo
Well, it is a way to keep forums small, personal and free of spam. I wouldn't sign up for a forum like that, but I understand the reasons, so it wouldn't bother me.
besroma
That is too much info for me to give out.

I wouldn't sign up for a forum like that, but I understand the reasons, so it wouldn't bother me. Yes, I understood their motivation. They made it clear that it's a female only forum and I'm sure they just wanted to make sure people were who they said they were. It did bother me because I wanted to discuss with them, and it is a local board so I could have met some local moms, but I just couldn't give out that info so trustingly on the net. Annie Laurie
Ugh, a triple. I'm having trouble with the forums, it doesn't show I posted and I hit the button too many times.
Jean in Newcastle
Ugh, a triple. I'm having trouble with the forums, it doesn't show I posted and I hit the button too many times. Hit refresh instead. Then your post will show.
Catwoman
I wouldn't give out all that information. It's not the forum owner's business -- and realistically, there's nothing to stop people from lying about the info, anyway, so it's not really much of a security measure. phathui5
If it's a local forum, that makes more sense to me. I joined a local homeschooling yahoo group and had to give the same information to get in.
Lolly
Honestly, I would just make up all the information and join. Even my email account has a fictional name attached to it. I don't give out real info that could be used to find me irl online.
happi duck
Since it's a local thing you might be able to get signed up irl. A local business that we use a lot has a generous perks card. When I went to sign up online I noticed it was not a secure site. I called their office directly and they were able to get me a card without me signing up online. Maybe if this group meets you in person they could accept your membership without all the information.
Remudamom
That's a nunya as far as I'm concerned.
gardenmom5
the only one where I've registered like that is a local-we-also-meet-in-person homeschool group that charges yearly dues. If that wasn't the case, there are LOTS of groups that dont' do that I can join.
Mimm
I wouldn't sign up for something like that, unless I'd met someone (in person) who ran the forum or who had been there for some time.
