Like if I do it at 5am tomorrow morning when I shower, I'll be happy for ever more? Seriously, my head is driving me NUTS. I hasn't ever been this bad before! I would also consider changing from shampoo to just very warm water or a little baking soda. I'm thinking it's the dryness that is causing the itchiness. DD improved significantly and DS is now dealing with a much worse case of it. I started using the oil and let it sit for a couple of days. Shampoo with a good quality brand for itchy scalp. Mix 2-4 tablespoons of vinegar with 1 cup or two of water while you're in the shower and pour it over your head when you're all done everything else (keep your eyes closed!). Kind of massage it in. Starting out, I used a couple tablespoons of baking soda mixed into a paste with a little water. Over time, I reduced the amount of bs, so now I use maybe a teaspoonfull, disolved in about three ounces of water. If my hair seems particularly greasy, like when I haven't washed it for three days, I use a little more. The baking soda actually degreases the hair, but you can control the amount of cleaning by the concentration of bs. I've done this for about three years now, and you can't tell the difference in appearence from shampooed hair. The flakiness and itchiness have both improved a lot. LostSurprise Posted November 30, 2012 Share Posted November 30, 2012 It depends on the type of itch I guess. I would probably oil ahead of my shower, wash it well, and then do a rinse with vinegar. Make sure the vinegar gets into the scalp where it itches. Its anti-bacterial, anti-fungal so it usually helps with common scalp itch. I haven't personally tried it, but a friend who did said it took about 6 weeks for her hair to not feel greasy. Maybe you just didn't give it long enough. In the UK I use something called "Simple". They make a shampoo and a conditioner and many other products. In the US I use Dh's rogaine shampoo/conditioner--it doesn't make me itch which is all I want. Many of my problems started with tea tree oil being added to products about 10 years ago. Also, get a clarifying shampoo and use it for several days. I once used a shampoo and conditioner from Arbonne on my hair and my reaction was not kind. I don't know what was in it but not only did it leave a residue in my hair that was difficult to deal with, but my head itched until I thought I'd go nuts! I called the gal that cuts my hair and she said I was having a skin reaction to one of the ingredients and said to get a clarifying shampoo which strips the hair of buildup and to massage it into my scalp, then rinse with apple cider vinegar. It worked. My typical routine now is a dime's worth of Burt's Bees Shampoo, mixed with baking soda, massage through hair and onto scalp thoroughly, rinse out with water, then "cream rinse" with apple cider vinegar water. It seems to have come out of nowhere and I was worried it was lice - but it isn't. SharonUF Posted November 30, 2012 Share Posted November 30, 2012 I suffered with an itchy scalp for years. I tried head and shoulders for itchy scalp and all the dandruff shampoos. None of them really worked. I was getting my hair cut at Great Clips and the lady cutting my hair told me all I needed was a mousturizing shampoo. Great Clips has one of their brand for a very reasonable price. I think it is about $7.00 a bottle, and it lasts me about 2 months. She said try it for a month and see it if helps. It took a couple of weeks, but by the end of the month my scalp was fine. I've been using their shampoo for 8 years now, and I haven't had an itchy scalp since. Gee, this sounds like a commercial. We are sensitive to both gluten (hydrolized wheat protein) and SLS I'd start out reading the ingredients of your products and look for obvious offenders there.
