jeninok
I've had a nasty sinus infection for nearly a month now, it is accompanied by having any pimple on my face turn into a painful oozy red mess. I have another post about it somewhere but I'm on my phone and can't find it! First I was given amoxicillin, which of course did nothing, 4 days later I went back in and was given 3 weeks of Doxycycline 3 times a day. That knocked it back but a week to the day after stopping I woke up to one of those giant under the skin pimples about the size of a nickel. By that night my snot was yucky and not normal allergy clear runny stuff. I was out of town until Monday and it got worse over the weekend, but went in yesterday again and this time its two weeks of Biaxin, with a refill if I need it. That stuff was pricey!! I already threw out our pillows. Washed all the pillowcases and towels on hot with bleach and kept washing mine after each use. I also tossed out all my makeup brushes, concealer, foundation and lotion. I've also been using chlorhexidine wash on my face instead of normal face wash. Bathroom and kitchen surfaces have been wiped down daily with bleach water, and my nails are filed as short as I can handle. No one else has gotten this despite the fact that DS and I have passed staph back and forth 3 previous times. The strain we had before responded instantly to doxy, and for him only needed bactroban ointment the last two times. Also I've been using colloidal silver dripped into my nose on a qtip as well as with boiled distilled water on a qtip dribbled in and sniffed through my nose, as well as just letting the hot shower run up my nose to rinse it out. There have been scabby sores that won't heal and crack painfully the bleed if it gets too dried out. Am I doing everything right? I'll probably be tossing my new makeup. Do you think Biaxin will work to knock this out for good? Its not nearly as bad as last time, there is just swelling and yellow sticky mucous this time. Last time it was really gross and I had a lot of blood clots and super nasty stuff come out once the swelling went down.
thescrappyhomeschooler
Raw, local honey, raw apple cider vinegar (Bragg's), cinnamon. You can mix these all in water (warm or cold) and drink every day. Don't eat dairy at all. This always helps me.
gardenmom5
I feel your pain. I had one year I *literally* had a sinus infection every single month of the kind that need antibiotics. of course, I also had a compromised immune system at the time.. I used some homeopathic remedies the last time I had an ubernasty need to go get antibiotics (won't go into gory details, but it was *really* bad.). I did NOT use antibiotics, and the two kinds of boiron kali ___ totally knocked it out. follow the links that fit your symptoms and it will tell you which to use. If you have mutliple symptoms, you can repeat the process and use more than one kind. there's also a link on the site that will tell you where you can buy them near you. these are basically coated sugar pills so don't touch them as it will compromise the coating. you dispense them into the lid then put them in your mouth. I love them. and they WORK.

KrissiK
I had a friend with this issue and I think they treated it as a yeasty thing at one point???? Several years ago I had a lot of staph infections and sinus infections and my fingernails got all nasty looking and my brilliant GP kept giving me antibiotics. Finally I told her I wanted to see a dermatologist. She cultured my nails, found a raging yeast infection and put me on diflucan for about 3 months. That kicked it. I have a lot of trouble with yeast and sinus infections, even now, but I am very careful about antibiotics and suspect yeast for most of my ailments. sunriseiz
I was thinking staph too. I would find a way to see a dermatologist asap. I had one after DS3 was born and it took a couple of weeks to figure it out and it was the derm dr that caught it.

The biaxin seems to be helping some already, at least the worst owie on my face has stopped doing the itchy burning thing and the redness has gone down too. I hadn't even considered yeast, other than needing to take diflucan with each antibiotic prescription and loading up on probiotics.
Debbi in Texas
Have you thought of adding Vit C supplements? I am a big believer in them and rarely get sick even though I am exposed to a lot of illness.

They had to do liver tests before and after. That was about 6 years ago when it happened, but ever since then I've had to be very careful with the antibiotics.
