Truscifi
Ds8 lost his. He's only had it 2 weeks. We go Tuesday for a new mold, I think. And last Tuesday we ordered replacements for the glasses he lost a while ago. :glare: So how much can I expect?
Canadianmumof5
DS broke his fairly early in his ortho treatment (from eating popcorn as well which he was NOT supposed to be eating!) and our ortho replaced it at no charge. Why would they need a new mold if he just got it?? The size wouldn't have changed so the lab would have it on file, no? Hope your ortho is as generous as ours! Mothersweets
CanadianMumof4, you are LUCKY!! Our ortho charges $100 to replace a lost retainer. Guess how I know? :glare:
Karen in CO
Ours warned us that it would cost upto $350 to replace... I don't remember what he said after that, but he might have just been trying to scare my dd (and me).
sparrow
I just asked my son, because he remembers these things :D, and he said $300.
Canadianmumof5
WOW! We are very fortunate then. Remind me to be extra nice to our orthodontist when we see him next week :D
Truscifi
:svengo: Ouch! I hope I can work out a payment plan or something. I won't be able to do that all at once, not on top of glasses already this month.
Lolly
I think it is around $300, but they shouldn't need new molds.
magic
Ours is $180. When we received the retainer we signed a paper agreeing to a maximum replacement cost.

higginszoo
Our ortho has gone to invisalign-type tray retainers because they're only $40-60 usually to replace if/when they get lost.

beezus
It's $150 at our orthodontist's office for a replacement, but ours has had mercy on us and didn't charge for the last one. Maybe because it didn't last as long as he had told us it would. Someone there once told me they don't re-use the molds because they get torn up in the process of casting the new device. Don't know if that's really true. Probably there's a storage issue too with molds being made for lots of patients.
Laura Corin
About £90 around here. Calvin had a suitcase stolen from a train with his retainer inside. Oh, and the previous one was chewed by the dog.... Laura
melissad2
Depends on the type of retainer. My last one was $100 for top and bottom and they are the invisalign type....incidentally I hate them and much prefer the old kind.

delaney
We pay $200 for lost or damaged. If they get a filling or their mouth changes in anyway from growth we get them done free (for life).

Karen in CO
We had two chewed by the dog. $100 each. Our ortho warned us that dogs Love retainers. I guess it's true. I don't don't if the scary $350 price I remember was for one or both, but he does adjustments and fixes broken ones for free forever. He is just really tough on replacement. Yeah, it seemed like the dog could smell them and hunt them down even if they weren't in easy reach. Now the rule is, in a closed drawer. Of course, dd needs to see things to remember and she can't see the retainer when it's in a drawer. :001_smile: We have another dd in a palate expander. For her, I will put off braces for as long as I can. It might take until she's 30 until I'm confident she'll be able to keep a retainer safe from the dog. That's pretty hopeful thinking about the dog, isn't it? :001_huh:
