laurapug
I'm looking for a poetry study for one or two semesters for an 8th grade boy. We have never studied poetry before. I've thought about The Grammar of Poetry or The Art of Poetry by Christine Perrin. Has anyone used these or can you suggest other resources for middle school/early high school. Thanks! SilverMoon
We are going with Art of Poetry. Since we haven't started our year yet, I can't tell you much about it. It was an easy decision for me. Logos Press seems to have a reputation for being very dry, and we couldn't be happier with all the books we've used from Classical Academic Press over the years. They make it fun, interesting and easy; the teacher editions are very helpful. I've learned Latin and logic along with my children thanks to CAP. 8filltheheart
I used Art of Poetry last yr w/my then 7th grader. It is easy to use. We didn't always agree w/her analysis, but over all I found it a solid resource.
laughing lioness
I've used the Grammar of Poetry by Whitling a couple of different times. Whatever else you use you could add in Horatius at the Bridge by MP. The students at Highlands in 5th grade do a "Churchill" challenge where their kids memorize the whole thing. Momma_Bear
We're using The Art of Poetry with an older 6th grader and 9th grader this year and like it so far. :001_smile:
