In serious need of motivation

Recommended Posts

Hello all. I hs'd my 7 and 5 year old last year while living in Canada. We moved back to Michigan in Feb. and my ds went to ps 1st grade and my dd 5 went to a 3 day a week part time preschool. Ds time at PS was a complete disaster and blessing at the same time. Because of the issues he was having in school we had him tested and found out he is highly gifted, dyslexic, and dysgraphia. Light bulb!

The psychologist recommended a certain private school for him or homeschooling. The private school is very attractive. All the teachers are ORton G trained and he will be pulled out into a resource type reading group. The administrators seem to really understand his complicated nature and I *think* he will at least have the chance to succeed. My dd 5 will also be going to kindergarten there 3 days a week (love that).

The issue is that my dh and I were discussing school and dh has suddenly realized that he really wants me to hs my son. It would most definitely be cheaper and his argument is that we are basically paying the private school for the way we would want him to be taught at home. Dd would still go to school as I suspect I will have to hs her soon anyway (on competitive track at gymnastics and they train up to 20 hours a week in first grade).

So I'm having trouble getting motivated. I'm overwhelmed with the knowledge of how much work hs is. I caught enough carp from my family the last time I hs them to last a lifetime. I think a lot stems from our time in Canada. We were trapped in a tiny house heated by a wood stove with no hs resources or activities in the community. Why can't I find my motivation. I know this time will be better just because of where we live. I half way wish my dh would just give me no choice. Thanks for listening to my rant if you made it this far :)

Well, when your kid has those kinds of learning challenges, it does make it more challenging to homeschool. You have to research and try different methods until you find the ones that will work for your child. Maybe you could get an OG tutor for reading and just do some of the other subjects yourself.
