Jamee
Im thinking ahead to next year and my kids will be doing current events. Are there any great student news resources online or apps? Any inexpensive suggestions? Thank you!

Halcyon
We really, really like the Weekly Reader. My boys are thrilled when it arrives, and they have an online component (which we haven't really used, simply due to lack of time).
Murrayshire
We use: http://sciencenewsforkids.org http://htekidsnews.com/ We are planning on using this also for next year for my 1st, 4th, and 7th grader: http://www.studiesweekly.com/
Harriet Vane
We love CNN Student News. Once you enroll they will send a link to your email address, though it is also accessible from the CNN website. It's a ten minute daily video.
Murrayshire
Thanks for the cnn student news....we'll add that to the list. I forgot about this one: http://hmcurrentevents.com/ My oldest dd uses it too! She likes them all!
Mom0012
http://www.cnn.com/studentnews/ My kids really like this. Lisa
Jamee
Thank you. Off to chek CNN and weekly reader. I thought of WR first, but it would never arrive here in a timely manner. Online would be cool though. Thanks a bunch!
LAinVA
We really, really like the Weekly Reader. My boys are thrilled when it arrives, and they have an online component (which we haven't really used, simply due to lack of time). How do you order just one subscription? It says a minimum of 10. I ran into this issue with Scholastic News also. My dd would love these; but I don't need 10!
Jamee
I was wondering about that too. Is there a way to order for homeschoolers?
lisabees
Another suggestion that ds liked - http://www.youngzine.com/ Not sure how to order Weekly Reader as a homeschooler. Hope you all figure it out!
fastforward
How do you order just one subscription? It says a minimum of 10. I ran into this issue with Scholastic News also. My dd would love these; but I don't need 10! Sorry to answer for Halcyon, but I've ordered individual subscriptions from Weekly Reader, Scholastic News and Time for kids, but they cost in the neighborhood of $25 for the year, in contrast to the $4-5 per year when you order 10+ subscriptions. :glare: (Not a terrible price for a year, but annoying that it costs so much more.) I called the 800 numbers associated with the publications to order. Hope that helps.
In the Rain
How do you order just one subscription? It says a minimum of 10. I ran into this issue with Scholastic News also. My dd would love these; but I don't need 10! Weekly Reader just altered their pricing this week. It is now cheap (under $10) to receive a single issue at home. The trade off is that you no longer have access to the digital editions for any order under 10 copies. You just call the 800 number to order. I'll check out some of these other sites. My dd really liked CNN student news at first, then it seemed upsetting to her sometimes. She was a sensitive, young 10 yo. She loves WR. ETA: The phone operator at WR this week said that everything abut the pricing may change again by the end of summer.
In the Rain
We use: http://htekidsnews.com/ That is a neat site! There is a wide variety of articles, which will really appeal to my 10yo. Thanks!
