Chris in CA
the "real " story on Wikipedia - boy did they change the facts around! Does anyone know if there is a movie about what really happened? thanks
RebeccaC
My boys have watched several documentaries on it this past year. Most of the documentaries were on the History Channel or History International. Some were on the mutiny and some were on Captain Bligh and some on Fletcher Christian. They saw documentaries that painted Bligh as a good guy just misunderstood and some as an evil guy same for Christian. Try surfing around at the History channel and see what you come up with. We did cable for a year because we were using Hp's Sea and Sky and I checked the cable every week for stuff that would add to our studies and that is how we ran across the many we saw. Wish I could remember the titles but I don't. We saw 3 versions on the movie also, Errol Flynn as Christian from 1933, Clark Gable as Christian from 1935 and Marlo Brando as Christian from 1962. Errol Flynn's movie was called In The Wake of the Bounty and the movie had several extras who were descendants of the crew and island women. It was Flynn's first movie. We did not see the Mel Gibson movie.

RebeccaC
I had no idea Mel Gibson did this movie, we say the one with Clark Gable (love him!)thanks for the ideas We did not watch the Gibson movie because there is a lot of frontal female nudity along with suggestive island dancing, ect.... I just did not think that it would be appropriate to watch with my sons or to call it fun school and add it in with other maritime films like Moby Dick or The Old Man and the Sea, ect..... Thought I would add that in just in case it would be something that would give you pause. Anthony Hopkins played Bligh if I remember right. The film was made in 84 or 85 I think and made Bligh look like a victim. So it is quite a bit different from the earlier films.
