CC and financial aid

Recommended Posts

Dual enrollment in NC is free (tuition) so high school students don't need financial aid. However, the financial aid program at our CC is great, and easily navigated. They hold quarterly seminars for parents and students on the financial aid process, and they have great staff who will walk you right through it.

I would suggest you go to the CC in question, walk in the financial aid office, and get started. Make friends (get names) and ask questions. It sounds scarier than it is.

My teen took quite a few classes at the community college this year solely on our dime as there is no state paid dual enrollment where we live.

At the end of the year, we received a tax document showing us what we might claim. On investigation, I learned that we could only claim that money if our daughter had graduated high school. Since it is our intent that she use her cc classes as part of her high school studies and since we'd like her to enter a four year college as a freshman, we are not able to claim the tax benefit.

Regards,

Kareni
