dragons in the flower bed
Hey all you parents of teenagers, My attic text says that the letter iota has two sounds: i as in it, and e as in machine. But e is silent in machine, so that's not a sound. Do they mean that iota can act as a modifier to make i say ee as in meet, or do they mean that iota can be silent? Chris in CA
I could be wrong but I took it to mean that it says the eeee sound that the "i" in machine says when you say the word phonetically - macheen clear as mud?

Karenciavo
Yes, it's the sound the /i/ makes in machine.
dtsmamtj
Our greek textbook gives the example of "feet" saying that the "i" also has the sound of our english "ee." HTH T
